680's Kincaide Goes National- Is ATL Sports Talk Any Good?

AJC reports John Kincaide will be given a Sunday AM show on ESPN Radio.

Kincaide certainly does inspire debate, with Buck playing his straight man, but I wish it was more intelligent debate. yes, I know, it’s only sports-talk, but too much of the Buck and Kincaide show seems to be scripted in advance, with the hosts having obviously chosen in advance that one will play “good cop” (almost always Buck) and one will play “bad cop” (Kincaide, of course.) I understand the thinking behind it, but too much of the discourse on the show is Kinciade insulting others with obviously overblown opinions designed to spur a reaction, and then others calling in to insult him. I guess it works to a degree, but anyone who has heard sports-talk in other markets knows that sports-talk radio can be much more interesting than anything being produced in Atlanta right now. between the aforementioned schitick on Buck & Kincaide, and the barking at listeners and very little actual talk about sports from the Two Live Stews, afternoon sports-talk in Atlanta is a wasteland. Give me the national shows like “The Herd” any day.

I find Buck & Kincade to be about 80% unlistenable but I really thought that Kincade did a great job of filling in for Colin Cowherd a couple of weeks ago.

And I will respectfully disagree with you that interesting sports talk isnt being produced in Atlanta right now. I'll take Dimino's two hours (for example) over anything I've heard nationally.

Also, The Stews are pretty damn good.
______________

I like Dimino as well. The interplay between him and the 'Home Team' guy seems genuine. I like the Stew's OK, but I'd like to hear more Stews vs O Reilly in the mid afternoon slot and Dimino drivin ya home, then maybe a 'reStew' at night. ??

If you think that is even a remotely good radio show you must have been in a coma the past 20 years, that show is the worst show to grace Atlantas airwaves and Im including Bob & Tom.
______________

I agree- Dominoe is pretty good, but is it me or does he often take 100 words to say what could be said in only 5? Sometimes I just want to yell at the radio, "Get to the damn point already!" I like him. I just wish he would be a little more concise. He also uses the phrase "the idea of..." about three times in ever point he makes.

That being said, his baseball show, interviewing players from baseball's past, is one of the best things I've heard on radio in a long time. It's a sports radio program that respects sport, and does not insult the intelligence of the listener.
