I thought that once ABC got ahold of the Fox Family Channel and renamed it ABC Family, that the 700 Club was going to be removed from the network. I heard that was the reason it wasn't sold to ABC/Disney because they wanted the program removed from the network, but CBN refused to remove it as part of the sale, and Fox ended up with the network instead. Unless there's a clause in the original Fox sale that the 700 Club remain on the network, ABC has every right to remove it. I personally would like to see anything Pat Robertson gone.
And I used to have a co-worker who supported him. Wait until Stephen Munsey of Family Christian Center in Munster Indiana starts making himself a household name. Ever since he relocated his church from Griffith Indiana to Munster Indiana, he spent extravegant amounts of money on a church that looks more like a theatre than a church, with seating to closely match Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville Indiana, and is really getting his message out through TBN & LeSea's World Harvest Network since he has his newer church. He has a lot of the same views as Pat Robertson. I have met Stephen Munsey and from his handshake, it felt like a handshake from satan because my hand got too hot from his handshake, and his eyes look evil too.

I'll have to keep an eye on this Munsey, he sounds like a real up and comer. The Godmercial industry needs some fresh faces. Most of the current megachurch names ignore TV and focus on book sales and having enormously large local congregations, so there's no one to really take over when Crouch, Robertson, etc. go to meet their unholy master.

What exactly is the deal that 700 Club has to stay on the air? I have read that Fox tried to buy Robertson out for a ton of money (hundreds of millions) before they sold to ABC but he refused it. Although I understand why, because he has guaranteed tv access to millions of homes. What would happen if ABC dropped the 700 Club, would ownership of the station revert back to Robertson?

I can give you some insight on the status of Christian broadcasting. Basically, the advent of the infomercial has made buying time VERY EXPENSIVE for Christian broadcasters (in the late 90's and early 00's, costs quintupled almost overnight and availability seriously dried up). From Pat's standpoint, I can see why he doesn't want to give up airtime at any price.
Even TBN forced most of their programs to be cut to 30 minutes rather than an hour. BTW, this was done with only two weeks notice via fax to the affected ministries. So much for Christians being held to higher standards!

The 700 Club Telethon has been an annual broadcast for decades. Many of the "big three" network affiliated stations Robertson bought time from would run it as a live "special net" broadcast, before satellite became the main distribution method.

Well, I am assuming that he has done the "math", if in fact he turned down hundreds of millions of dollars (probably vastly overstated). The thing to understand is that these Christian ministries are run like businesses. They try to attribute how much money is donated in each time slot vs. the cost of each timeslot. If it is "profitable", the timeslot stays. Otherwise, it is cancelled.

700 club airs on KTVE (Monroe, LA/El Dorado, AR) after last hour of Today show (10am central). It finally dropped off the regular broadcast stations in Little Rock (except for religious station KVTN) after airing on KLRT, then KASN for a number of years. Suprised it didn't air on KWBF (kinda like Mikey, they'll air anything).
