Central Mass. 730 WACE Chicopee/Springfield, 1230 WNEB Worcester, and 970 WESO/101.1 W266DK Southbridge MA sold

“After its sale to to Journey For Life Media along with 730 WACE Chicopee/Springfield and 1230 WNEB Worcester was withdrawn earlier this month, Holy Family Communications has sold Catholic 970 WESO/101.1 W266DK Southbridge MA to the Daniel Becker led TLM Communications. The terms of the deal were withheld from the filing.”

Another sale falls through:
"Holy Family Communications has withdrawn its sale of Catholic 970 WESO/101.1 W266DK Southbridge MA to the Daniel Becker led TLM Communications."

I thought these Catholic broadcasters were not having a hard time with money. Considering how Protestant media is so well represented on the airwaves, I thought Catholics were trying to catch up.

The big national network is Relevant Radio based in Wisconsin. All of their stations pretty much run the same programming, similar to a network like K-Love. I think Relevant Radio has some local spots and PSAs while the programming remains the same.

But then there are local Catholic broadcasting groups, such as Holy Family Communications, that own a few stations in a region of the U.S., sometimes with help from the local diocese. They often carry programming from EWTN based in Alabama. But they also may have some of their own shows.

Is Relevant bigger than EWTN? I think one of the Bott stations in KC used to and maybe still does run EWTN programming.

Relevant Radio and EWTN have different business models. Relevant owns all, or nearly all, the stations it is heard on. The organization has stations in many of the large to medium markets. EWTN owns no stations. It just provides programming. Its main focus is its cable TV network but also produces radio shows for its 24 hour radio service.

At one time, EWTN owned an AM station in its hometown of Birmingham AL, 1480 WQOH (Queen of Heaven). But now a local Catholic group owns the station and runs EWTN programming along with its own. It's now called WMMA (Mother Mary Angelica, the founder of EWTN). EWTN does have a channel on Sirius XM. The Archdiocese of New York also has a channel.

My guess is that if a Bott-owned station is running Catholic programming in KC, a local Catholic group is leasing the station from Bott.
