770 WABC & 570 WMCA weather reports in the 60's and The Beatles

Like I said, I am sure this went on in other markets, but I grew up in Northern NJ, in the 50's & 60' . . . 1010 WINS, 1050 WMGM, 570 WMCA and 770 WABC right into the 98.7 WOR-FM and 102.7 WNEW-FM era.
All playing RnR.
Some stations gave up on RnR like WMGM & WINS, but WABC and others took their place, some over time.

WABC & WMCA had a thing with the weather, very rarely on WMCA was it 77 degrees in NYC. It was either 76 or 78 . . . why, ya know . . . 77 was WABC!!!
Same with WABC, it very rarely was 57 degrees in NYC, it was either 56 or 58 . . . 57 was WMCA!!!
By the way . . . it was 77 deg or 57 deg in NYC when this happened!!!

Sometimes the "jock" on WMCA would say it is 77 or on WABC would say it is 57, and then the "jock" would quickly say . . . no its not --- its 78 or 58!!!

When The Beatles made their U.S. debut, often WMCA got the song before WABC . . . and as WMCA played the song you'd hear . . . YOU HEARD IT FIRST ON WMCA!!!!! . . . played much thru out the song, right over it. The thinking was if WABC copied the song off WMCA's air signal it would have all these interruptions and WABC could not use it.

NYC RnR radio was fun for radio nerds as well as the average listener, as I said many times my friends hated when WABC DJ's would talk over the beginning of a song - I LOVED IT . . . my friends liked WMCA more because WMCA jocks hardly talked over a song's beginning.

It was a FUN TIME FOR RnR MUSIC & RnR RADIO!!!
