89.5 FM WSOU from "The Loudest Rock to....Hip/Hop?"

Well, after usually skipping over the heavy metal, and/or extremely hard core rock of 89.5 FM, I was VERY shocked to hear hip hop music... Its still on (17th Aug. 2009 12:38am)

1) I was convinced, a daring Pirate taking over wsou's signal

2) I listenend a while longer, next songs were also hip hop

3) Was that the WSOU call letters I heard?!?!? (But It went by so fast and sounded like "WSOEU", so I was still skeptical

4) I log onto WSOU's website, check programming schedule, no special programming listed, just the usual "We’re Playing the Loudest Rock! The very best blend of metal, punk, hardcore, post-hardcore, progressive and modern rock." Message under current program

5) Aha a clever pirate... BUT, I decide, let me hear the official WSOU online stream... The same Hip hop from my radio?!?!?

6) And then on my radio I hear the WSOU call letters much more clearly this time and slower.

Conclusion: So for now 89.5 is hip hop

Question: Is this:

* permant change?
* A DJ having some fun switching the genre without any notice?
* auto track with wrong playlist?
* or a New Sunday Night program?

(I prefer it, but it does severly limit "punk rock" exposure on the dial, for those that like that stuff.) (89.5 was my least favorite station in general... Im now leaving it on, as it totally is beating hot 97 and Power 105 in the "authenticity" and "New York local style" department"

P.S. Just heard a live DJ, and he giving away hip hop related call in prizes, hmm.

Like we need yet another rap station. There are too many CHR stations in New Jersey!

Might be a specialty show.

I think what you heard was a specialty show on Sunday night. I just checked the stream and it's their normal hard rock/metal.

Yep, seems like an unlisted specialty show, around 3am i think; i checked again and heard the normal heavy rock format.

Same situation when there was a dance mixshow playing on WSOU during the weekend. But all week, it's still it's true metak/hard rock format.

I was listening on my insigna HD radio portable walkmen desperately trying to find metal and rock. 106.9 CCC was coming in a bit but I was listening for a time in greenwich ct over WPKN. As I understand it, WSOU is more rock oriented on sundays. I would encourage any radio nut to pick up this insigna walmen for 50$ it is on back order.

Sunday is the only day of the week that WSOU doesn't air regular rotation hard rock/metal. It may be because Seton Hall is a Catholic university.
