93.1 WEZW Wildwood Crest is All Christmas 10/30/09

Wow. I just found out about this. Nice move. Seriously. This could do as well as WDUV in Tampa with Cape May's mature, affluent audience. This is one of the more unique moves in South Jersey radio in a long time.

(a) It's a lower Cape May County FM signal. Cape May County stations have a hard time cracking a 2.0 in the book.

(b) It doesn't matter -- the station is commercial free!

They'll add commercials sooner or later. When Clear Channel launched Hip-Hop POWER 104.1 in Hartford in 2003 they bragged about being Hartford's only home for commercial free Hip-Hop and R&B. They even poked fun at CBS's HOT 93.7 (the first FM hip-hop station in Hartford) for airing commercials. Then eventually Power began airing commercials so their tagline changed to "The Most Commercial Free Hip-Hop and R&B." Both stations had around 10 mins of commercials per hour, but HOT did the 10 mins in a row. Power split the minutes up.

Today the station is independently owned MODERN ROCK RADIO 104.1 - http://www.radio1041.fm/ Check them out. Just a note. Their Midday and Afternoon Jocks are VTd. Mid-dayer Rebecca does mornings at sister station Soft Rock 106.5 in New London and their Afternoon Jock Fisch does afternoons as "Kidd David" on sister station Jammin 107.7 in New London. Their morning man Kaiser is a Jersey native.

I agree... Commercial free is a gimmick. Actually, as a station owner, I hate the notion of commercial free....

It's not good for business and as far as the listener goes, it portrays commercial in the wrong light.. The very idea of COMMERCIAL FREE is STRONGLY SUGGESTIVE that commercials are bad.. That's the wrong thing you want to convey to listeners.

Stations without commercials/underwriters cannot survive.

People that listen to satellite radio brag about the fact it is commercial free.. the truth is, CABLE TV was commercial free but they soon realized they could not survive without ads... Sirius/XM is tryingto hook people before they unleash the commercials.. but it will probably be fairly soon that one hears the first commercial on SIRIUS as they are very close to bankruptcy. the end game as it were.

The mysterious Josh seems to be the morning guy on WZFI named "Josh Davis" who looks
like he is about 17 years old, so I don't know how he "grew up with WIBG" since it died in
1978, more than 10 years before he was born.

The FCC records for WZFI say it is owned by four 25% partners ...
Donna McArdle, Robert McArdle, Laurie Hooks and Joseph Burke.

Strange.
