93.3 JAKE FM is on the air with new country

Yawn... 93.3 is just what we needed. It's another country in town. Let's see... Their two newbies against cc's established two stations... Best of luck to ya Tyler boys. You'll need it.

By the looks of yes.com, it looks like they started Jake before midnight. The old KKNG web site is still unchanged with 93.3 and their old slogan still in place. Jake-FM' site just has a logo, no streaming yet.

They have a long way to go.

Let's recap things. First, they piss off their new music audience by firing the jocks they know and playing old country for several days. The new music folks get mad and go to the Twister. Check one. Then, they of course force the older audience they had to go to another frequency (old people are set in their ways and don't like to make ANY changes) to a stick that doesn't cover very well. KXXY is sitting there with similar music, in town, with 100kw. Check two. Then, when they finally get around to putting the new music back, granted all new music, on 93.3, they do it with a Jack version of country... some damn robot voice title-artist thing. Check three. Now, one would think with all the waiting they'd have a website up to sort of explain things better, and at least get the logos right with the right frequency. Check four.

How many check marks does it take before ya fail?

Well by listening to Jake I relized a few things.

1. Why I hate country music.
2. Listening to them play the same songs over and over in a loop.
3. Relized Joel Folgers Coffee is in charge (that is why it sounds so cheap)
4. I will never go to a chicken fry again.
5. The Twister will have this station killed off in a year and Tyler will have to go back to running spanish of some kind.
6. I know everyone is bashing Kevin but to me I think he is along for the ride with this one and he is a good guy.
7. James Ayers hates Jake.
8. Joel Folger must have watched broke back mountian and thought he can do country music too.

Well after learning so much I relized if I ever have the urge to get a BBQ stain on my white t-shirt I will listen to 101.9 The Twister least they sound like they are programed by someone who knows country music.

Lol!

Actually the Kevin thing was a question not a blame. I still honestly want to know who thought going more modern with KKNG was the right move. PDs sometimes get to have some input so his name was thrown in.

Kevin Christopher is a great guy, and I wouldn't work for anyone else in radio but Kevin. I haven't heard Jake, so I can't say that I hate it. As far as radio consultants go, I have yet to meet one who is in touch with the local listener of the station they program. I am hoping that this one is in touch.

I have been bombarded with calls all week from people who are asking me if I am angry that I lost my job. I am not. I am disappointed that I could not continue to be a part of the success of the company, but I'm not angry. I lasted twelve years longer than I expected to, and I had some great experiences.

Now, it's time to move on to another form of entertainment. Maybe extreme midget wrestling.

Best wishes, James. I am sure something even better will come your way and you will do well!

Fred, I thank you for the kind words. I will always remember the first time I met you in person at David Stanley Dodge, making deals that other dealers won't and giving you tires for life...

Hey Watercooler...maybe you could "relize" that you spelled realized wrong.

Yet another clever trap set by the Watercooler, who may be one of few who have actually figured it out. Good job WC. I will miss setting those same types of traps for the listening audience.

Best wishes and good luck James. Hope you, Bill and Casey find a good gig soon! :) My faith in their consultant is very low. The good news is that if my thoughts are right, the format will fail hopefully soon. Maybe it will make room for work for some good jocks again after that, whatever the new format will be after this thing called Jake.

Oh, I don't know, Kevin seems a bit holier-than-thou to me; but if you're on his page, I suppose James is right, he'd otherwise be an okay fella. And Watercooler is right, he's probably just along for the ride. Who broke the bad news, Kevin or Ty or both of them? (I sincerely hope it wasn't a memo in your paycheck envelope!).

Jeez, if this is Folger's doing, like I said in the other topic, he should be mining his tenure at KJ and putting up an 80s/90s thing to kick a number of stations in the can...that could take a bite out of Magic, KJ, Wild (I think they're still on the air, aren't they?), the Perry stations, Kiss, and a bit of the Brew for those who like a wider variety of music. That really would've flipped the bird to CC, for not planting GenX down here instead of the Brew.

I wasn't that impressed with Jake either (of course, I'm not a big country guy).

Who handles the Tyler websites? Someone should get fired for not getting KKNG.com retrofitted for 97.3.

I think it's an extermal person/company.

As well executed as this thing is, I wouldn't be supprised if the actually forgot to tell the web guy of their needs.

Well I have to wonder what they were thinking. I mean if you had been out-programmed by Tom at CC for the past 5 years, why would you think you could out program him now? I'm not a fan of consultants either, but it seems to me that the WRONG people lost their jobs. The whole station was tanking, not just James, Bill, or KC, it was the WHOLE STATION, and wasn't Kevin doing middays? So I think that would make him a part of it. I think its hard for consultants to understand the local flavor of a town, especially since I read the Foldger guy is from Minnesota? That can't be good. I just wonder how long they will give it before flipping it again?

Yup. It seems they kept their pets but got rid of muscle instead. It wasn't the talent's fault they made the wrong PROGRAMMING decision that gave CC the upper hand. It was above their pay-grade. I give them a year. After that, it will be something else. I have NO faith in Folger. He ha a pretty bad track record.
