93.9 "The Drive" in Augusta takes to the air, playing classic rock!!!!

I listened this morning to see what would take the place of "The Big Dog" on 93.9 hoping the new station would be a top 40/CHR, but noooooooo, that's obviously a forbidden format here in this radio black hole known as Augusta. What is Beasley thinking!! Do they think, just like Clear Channel, that there's nobody under the age of 35 living in Augusta?? What is worse, having three country stations or having two classic rock stations while having ABSOLUTELY NO top 40 stations? Well, this next message is for Beasley and Clear Channel and I hope you're reading this: I, along with many other people in their 20's and teens want to hear something on the radio more current than what is offered here and we're tired of it. I just want the oblivious, thick-headed broadcasting companies around here who want nothing more than to play the same old tired crap we've been hearing on the radio to know that this is the last straw- you've lost me to satellite radio. Satellite radio here I come! Have a good day.

I'm with you, JT...where is the CHR in Augusta? Just b/c Y105 couldn't cut it doesn't mean a properly programmed CHR would tank too. I don't live in AUG anymore, but when I'm there, it sucks! Nothing to listen to!

And can anyone tell me what happens now to Dakota West and Cliff Bennett? I'm not there to listen and see if they're still on!

This is what happens when sales people run the programming department. The Drive sounds like the Eagle Lite. Just what we needed...NOT!

Y-105 didn't do all that bad, did it? Wasn't it always near the top in the ratings? Two words can sum up what happened to Y105: Clear Channel. Man, I hate Clear Channel with a passion. A properly programmed CHR would do very well here if they played a lot of current music, went light on the hip hop, and maybe played something like Open House Party and Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 on the weekends. I know Augusta is a conservative market but that doesn't mean that Augusta is nothing but baby-boomers and retirees. I swear, if you listened up and down the dial here, you would think Augusta is where old people come to die. It doesn't make any sense because the Columbia, SC area is conservative too but they have WNOK (which is owned by Clear Channel, too). I'll keep my ears open and listen for somebody to get with the times and start a CHR here, but I'm not getting my hopes up because of this strangle-hold corporate radio has on Augusta. I'll listen to terrestrial radio when I travel, but when I'm in Augusta, it's definitely satellite radio.

I think it will be interesting to see how long this Eagle ripoff lasts, who wants to bet it will end up as another one-year-wonder like the Big Dog? Like I said in my original post, three country stations and one classic rock station or two country stations and two classic rock stations, which is worse? Oh yeah, and the rest are lite AC and urbans. Talk about "diversity" in programming!! What a joke.

Two more words: Cumulus Media! They were the ones that ran Y-105 AND WBBQ into the ground. Clear Channel just finished the job.

You know what's really sad? Once upon a time (about 10 years ago), Augusta radio was MUCH better than Columbia radio. You had not only Y-105, but a REAL Modern Rock station in Channel Z-95.1, one Album Rocker (96-RXR), and one Classic Rocker (Eagle 102.3), among many other examples. Radio in Augusta was more diverse than what was on the air in Columbia at that time. Sadly, since the 1996 Telecom Act, radio has become less and less diverse. It's ironic, since one of the biggest lies of that law was "more diversity on public airwaves" (The other big lie was that "more jobs would be created"). Bleh!!! :>p
