95.7 BEN FM to go commercial free on Mondays

According to the DN and Inquirer Tuesday, 95.7 WBEN-FM has gone commercial free from 9 AM until 5 PM on Mondays. Thoughts on this move?

San Diego's JACK FM has been doing this for a while... "All Music Mondays" Commercial-free from 9a-5p.

I wish NYC's JACK FM had done this when they were on analog/HD1... I think it's a really good idea though... great way to kick off the work week. Although, JACK FM NYC did do their "No Repeat Workweek" which basically was the guarantee of not hearing the same song more than once from 9-5 all week long.

THAT was pretty nice.

To quote myself... just decided to check the BEN FM site (957benfm.com) and noticed that the banner for their "All Music Mondays" (same name too) looks very similar to the one on sandiegojack.com in terms of time and word placement -

...someone at Greater Media seems to be very lazy and uncreative.

It all sounds good in theory, but why would a station not air spots from 9-5? To the listener it sounds like a dream come true.....to sales it sounds like there's a nightmare going on. Looks like they're trying to make some positive spin on a very negative problem.

This is a great idea. What better way to try to get some at work listening than to go commercial free on the first day of the work week. Who knows? Maybe people who try them out on Mondays will like what they hear, and then stick around the rest of the week. And you know they will find a way around the supposed lost money. As someone said, maybe they'll have a sponsor each hour, or maybe the commercials the rest of the week will be heavier. But overall, I think BEN is being very aggressive, and that's a good thing.

And, in a lot of cases...

Monday is one of the worst days of the work week for radio advertising to begin with. So spots could either be frontloaded, or moved around to make such a thing happen. Many more advertisers try to book Wednesday-Saturday.

An interesting concept, I agree.
