97.7 & 99.5, now giving away $10,000...is it for real?

Poor, Poor, Oscar....I don't know what kind of vehicle you drive therefor I can not comment on the radio that is in this vehicle..but I drive a 2002 toyota 4runner and when i am in kenwood my radio picks up one of signals great...i was also in North College Hill over the weekend and the signal was great...You might want to update your radio. why do you keep knocking the signal for 97.7 & 99.5? CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? Don't get me wrong, there are some places i can not pick up the stations, but for the most part, i can & I LOVE IT!
Well, according to Oscar i should love it now because he says the format will change....

As an aside I was driving around today and was listening to 97.7, and they played Nick Lowe's gem "Cruel To Be Kind." The last time I heard that on my radio dial was when the original 97X played it from time to time.

Also, the signal was pretty damn good where I am - near the Beechmont/275 interchange.

You're right!

I have a crappy car radio, but guess what? Lots of people do and if they can't get the station, they won't listen. The signal is somewhat listenable to me up north, but once I head into the southern portion of Hamilton County and northern KY amongst the hills, downtown buildings, and RF pollution, it's totally unlistenable. Radiotuner, where do you think most of the market's listeners are? There are about a million people working during the day south of Ronald Reagan Highway in Hamilton County and into NKY. 100,000 are in or around downtown alone. An engineer I used to know would tell people to "get a new radio" when they compained about the signal. Is that a good strategy? Most of those people hung up on him.

Do you think WYGY has a good signal? It's better than 97.7/99.5 and even with tons of marketing they only get a three share. Why? The signal is part of their problem. (B105 is the rest!) Same for WAQZ. A 2 share station with an antenna on the tallest tower in town in the dead center location of the market.

Then you have to think about who fills out diaries. Do you think more regular people with average radios are taking the time to fill them out or is it someone better off? I think you see that the people with more time on their hands will be the ones making or breaking your station.

Bottom line. The signal is clear in the LEAST populated areas of the market. One of the fastest growing areas - Boone County, KY - gets NO signal from that station because there's a LPFM on 97.7 and WSCH in Aurora stomps on 99.5 from their position at 99.3.

When the antenna moves to Mason, it will be an improvement, but only about as good as WAQZ is now. But, by then it will be a Smooth Jazz station owned by Radio One. So, it will be a moot point.

I can certainly see Radio One grabbing these stations, but why Smooth Jazz? Doesn't seem consistent with what Radio One is doing in other markets I'm familiar with.<P ID="signature">______________

POOR POOR OSCAR!!!

Oscar, I hope you get some time off of your job at your "Radio One" job. It sounds like you need some "time off" to cool down and relax. I can read and it seems to me you are taking what is on Radio-Info to heart. I appreciate all the time & dedication you have given to the 97.7 & 99.5 stations..I wish i could stay on the internet all hours of the day, but i can't.

This is just a website and that's it. Anyone can post anything they want. I wouldn't be surprised if people make up a topic just to see who will bite.

I enjoy this Radio-Info site & I enjoy reading what others are saying & hearing. But I enjoy Oscar's comments, full of pessimism and negativity...

I still am probably the new 97.7 & 99.5's number one fan!!! It is just a breath of fresh air to listen to..I am sure there are others who enjoy it as well...And the signal where i have been is very very good! So i'll enjoy it as long as i can...Hopefully, Oscar can find a station he likes and enjoys and whose "signal" is satisfactory for him....

By the way, my vote to name the station right now is "WTNT" the station is DYNOMITE!!!!!!!

RT, I hope you get some time away from your job at Taco Bell. Then you could ask someone who actually works in radio for a tour of a station. It seems to me it would be your first time inside one.

I noticed you didn't answer any of the points in my post, you just chose to act like a kindergartner.

Look brother, everyone can appreciate that you're a radio afficiando. We all are on this board. I can also appreciate that you love this station. My love for a small station helped rev up my enthusiam to get into the business.

But, when you come on here and try to call people out and tell us what you think you know, we're going to tell you when you're wrong. That's what this board is about.

What you call negativism and pessimism is what the "veterans" on this board call reality. These stations were bought by First as a "fixer-upper." They're going to do the 97.7/Mason move, give it a Cincinnati metro signal and then sell it for a huge profit. Then, they can sell the other 97.7 when it moves to KY, and sell off 99.5 to someone out east. One of the members of Radio-One's board is affiliated with First. Doesn't that seem like a pretty good indicator as to what's going to happen?

Try getting a little education by looking at some trade web sites like www.radioandrecords.com, www.insideradio.com, and www.fmqb.com. Read the stories about what companies do in this business. And remember that it IS a business and sometimes it doesn't happen the way you want it to.

By the way, WTNT is already taken. It's a Clear Channel AM talk station in D.C., and their FM country station in Tallahassee.<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by Oscar on 07/12/05 04:47 PM.</FONT></P>

Anyway, I am familiar with what First Broadcasting does with stations, so I am not as "dumb" as you think....It sounds as if you do not agree with what First Broadcasting does with radio stations...

But I am so glad I can count on you OSCAR, to point out when I am wrong, so I guess I better log onto www.nameusandwin.com and resubmit a name since WTNT was taken, what would i do without you OSCAR?

By the way OSCAR, have you entered a name for the stations yet? I would LOVE to pick your fine "radio" brain to find out what you think?

I really don't care what First Broadcasting does with their stations. You seem to be offended when I point out what they do. I wish I had the capital to do what they do. I'll be happy when they get 97.7 on a better signal so we can have some variety in this market. If they kept the current format, that would also be fine with me. But, I really don't think they're going to stay in a market of clusters as a standalone.

How do I know Radio-One and First are connected? Uh, I think I already stated that the FCC web site has the documents. Look them up.

I love the chili cheese burritos!
