97-9 The Rock - new Christian rock LP-FM in Corpus Christi

I was down there recently and stumbled across this new station. This is cool! I like the music selection even better than Air 1. Wish the format was also in San Antonio.

Unknowable? I beg to differ. C'mon, Mouse. Stick with a screenname, partner.

Anyway, I'll check this out. Good for Corpus, wish these guys well.

I wonder how they and the box get along? I remember most every time I come down I can pick up the box regularly more so out at port A.

This was posted on 97.9 The Rock's Facebook page back on July 29.

"Rock Nation this is the Rockman from 97.9 The Rock. As you may already know we have been off the air for about a week. We went down again due to a storm last week that took some equipment out. So that is one reason we have been off the air. On another note many of you may know that I was hospitalized in late April. I have struggled with my health these last couple of months however I am believing God for total healing and restoration. As I have sought God for direction for sometime now I believe this season with 97.9 The Rock has come to an end. I must step back for a moment and focus on my health & other areas of ministry I am involved in. I thank God for the opportunity & the time to have done this here in Corpus Christi. I thank each & everyone of you Rock & Metalheads for your positive feedback, prayers & support you know who you are. Love you my friends! The Rockman.."

Does anyone in this station's area know if they're back on since? I'll miss this station if they never got back on the air when I go back to the Corpus area. The format was good to hear online as well even though I don't live in the area. The site says I need a username and password when I try to stream KRKF through their website. Hopefully the guy gets well soon......

Now their Facebook page is gone... Does anyone in the Corpus area know if KRKF is broadcasting or did they end the station?

KRFK is off the air. There have been a few health and other issues. Their return is unknown.

Part of his message "I believe this season with 97.9 The Rock has come to an end" says it all.

Having worked a Christian station in the past, I found many people believing God spoke to them about doing something only to change up the game plan. It might be the responsibility of a station, the costs and the babysitting it requires that caused him to rethink his situation, especially given his health issues. Based on the many time the same words were told to me by clients, in each instance it was a cancellation. Given my track record, the station is history.

All I'm saying is I hope the Christian rock format comes back.
It's a unique format nobody, not even Air 1 offers. KRKF played hard Christian rock when it was on, Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch, etc.

Any word on a return, sir? I know you're in the Corpus Christi area, so maybe you can enlighten us on KRKF-LP's status. The website still shows the following.
403 FORBIDDEN

Nothing has changed and this LPFM didn't file a renewal like the other ones. Heck, even KNPI-LP which I didn't hear on last time I was in the area filed a renewal.

As I mentioned about 2 years ago, your keywords "I believe this season with 97.9 The Rock has come to an end" tells you all you need to know. They ceased 2 years ago and did not intend to return. Don't look for a renewal

Hope everything's ok with the owner and they just decided to close it up. I remember they had some health issues... I liked the station's format, I listened in the summer of 2019 one day I was there soon before they shut down.

Who will get the station next, a translator after the FCC deletes 97.9's license for no renewal? That may take a while.
