98.1 KISS handles the news of Donna Summer

Now that I know that Renel is voicetracked. During the 'Renel's Record Party', news was breaking about the death of Donna Summer. And where was Renel? No where to be found since her shift is pre recorded, so Christie was live on-air. They were able to rearrange the music to pay tribute to the Queen of Disco and play Donna Summer songs!

I flipped around the dial to see who was on it as soon as I heard the news. Regardless of Renel being either tracked or live, I have to give credit to Kiss....and I hate to say it, but Clear Channel overall in this case. They were on it with music and talk about her death right away on Kiss. I ran by KMEL and Chuy Gomez was talking about it...on a station that is so far removed from her music, but I guess it's the African-American audience target?

I think the loser in SF was The New KBLX, which was running pre-recorded Steve Harvey with no talk about it. She was much more relevant to the KBLX audience than KMEL (still not sure why they'd talk about it on a Hip Hop station, but whatever). I'm certainly no fan of voice tracking on stations and not a fan of Clear Channel, but they seem to have got this one right.

I decided to check out "the New" KBLX for the first time about 10:30. Sterling James was all over the Donna Summer thing (I guess she's live on air), and Victor Zaragosa is doing a tribute later today
