98.7 AMP RADIO got low ratings - Come on everybody please help this station now!

I could not believe my eyes when I looked at the November 2009 ratings that WVMV FM 98.7 AMP Radio got a 2.3 in ratings, that mean that 98.7 fell from 2.8 in October to 2.3 last month.

Come on everybody and please support Detroit's new and only mainstream contemporary hits radio station (CHR RADIO).

I would like for everyone who reads this who loves CHR radio to please make the switch from Channel 955 {Crappy 955} to the new 98.7 AMP Radio.

Dont listen to CRAPPY 955 at 95.5 FM here in Detroit.

313...or uhhh....Human Numan, why do you even bother doing this. your reaching probably less than 1% of people who actually listen to the radio, let alone 955 or Amp. I'm pretty sure that most people who listen to both of those stations have no clue or even care about R-I boards or any other message boards that have to do with radio. why bother.

Don't expect "Crappy 955" to go anywhere, it's staying right where it is.

I live in L.A., so excuse me asking this...What was the point of taking smooth jazz off the air? I read it got like a 4.9 or something like that...

I think 98.7 flipped format because their owners have built similar stations in New York and LA and they're working well there. I'm a little mystified by the current ratings for Detroit. I think 98.7 sounds pretty good. Maybe people just need to discover the station? As someone else pointed out, the average listener isn't as aware of the radio "scene" as people are here, on these boards. And I'm guessing 95.5's not mentioning "the competition" too much on-air. I think 98.7 will do better in the next round. I kinda miss 98.7's previous format, but I have to admit there sure wasn't much "jazz" in their smooth jazz, especially near the end. I'm pretty sure I heard them spin Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" (!).

The audience was, in its majority, older and ageing. Sales problem, in other words.

You need to give AMP some time. Remember that 98.7 is going after a completely different audience than who they were targeting before. While LA's AMP was quick to take hold, the new CBS CHR in NY is taking longer to develop. I'm sure the latter will be the case in Detroit. 95.5 isn't a bad station, it just leans a little more rhythmic than most mainstream CHR stations. In the end, that may be the flavor of CHR the market prefers. There's still a lot of tweaking to do, and until AMP gets their full jock lineup in place, it's tough to make comparisons at this point. The fact that they've gotten over a two share by essentially being just a jukebox is encouraging. Let's see what happens once all the pieces are put into place over at 98.7.

^^
I agree. Very few stations will come out like gangbusters in the ratings. You don't plant a seed and expect it to grow into a tree overnight, so Amp won't grow to the top overnight either. Give it time and if they put out a good product, people will listen.

I agree with the 1st reply to this thread. I tend to think the majority of radio listeners are just ordinary people who work in ordinary jobs and don't come to these sites to post on for the heck of it. They're people who work in radio. And why would anyone think it would benefit just from listening more that that would help anything?

Channel 9-5-5 is still a great station, I'm from LA so I listen to it from my iPod touch with the iheartradio app. I have listened to 98.7 AMP Radio though, the station is actually pretty good... better than the AMP here in LA, but they need to advertise on the streets (billboards, bus advertisments) or TV stations.

Looks like the new 98.7 Amp Radio is doing well - in the December PPMs it shot up to a 3.9 share, and cume-wise has around 850,000 listeners (good for 6th overall).

I agree with what a lot of others have said. I grew up in metro Detroit and have seen the formats of many stations change over the years. I now live in the Grand Rapids area but visit the Detroit area usually one or two weekends a month. I agree 100 percent with the post that said less than 1% of radio listeners post in here. They're not as passionate about radio as we are, so most of them couldn't care less (except maybe some hardcore fans of one radio station or another).

The two main stations I listen to over there these days are 98.7 and 106.7. I sometimes will turn on 95.5 if one of these stations is playing commercials or something. But personally, I really really like 98.7 much better than 95.5. 9-5-5 is biased too much toward rappish/hip-hop music. The variety on 98.7 is much better. I also agree that it is still a new station and people need to be made aware of it. However, I do see quite a few 98.7 billboards and have seen some 98.7 TV commercials promoting the station in metro Detroit.

On the other hand, I am sad that Smooth Jazz is gone from FM radio in Detroit. My musical tastes are quite varied, and I really enjoyed Smooth Jazz. When I discovered they'd be leaving, I was crushed. I'd had a lot of fond memories of listening to "Smooth Jazz - V98.7".
