99.7 DJX Louisville - Anyone Used To Listen To Their AM Signal In The ATL?

Just out of curiousity, did anyone used to check out Louisville's Top 40 station, 99.7 DJX on the AM band? I remember being in Atlanta in the early 90s and having no problem picking it up at night.

::) I am not sure how to tactfully respond... so I'll leave it to someone far more witty ... take it away, whoever you are........ ;D

::)Well that makes two of us as I'm not sure how to respond tactfully to your so-called response.
Yes, I'm well aware that Atlanta has its own station on 99.7. In the early 90s it was known as Power 99, and was a great CHR, but by 92 it evolved into a Modern Rocker, and all Atlanta was left with with Adult leaning CHR Star 94. But...over on the AM dial one could still pick up at night another CHR on the AM dial - 99.7 DJX.
So, let's try this again. Did anyone living in Atlanta at the time used to listen to WDJX on AM? Take it away whoever you are.

at one time, WDJX was also on 1080 AM...10kw days...
highly directional night....protecting WTIC Hartford. Is this maybe what you're asking about?

I thought I was the only one! My parents use to live up that way near Lousiville. I would always listen to 99.7 WDJX while I was up there! One night I was traveling back to Georgia, and found 99.7 WDJX on 1080 AM, I believe. I listened all the way home to Ga. It was a really good signal for AM. I could listen here in Athens most evenings. I wished it was still on AM.

OK, I got what you meant. If you had said 99.7 DJX simulcasted on AM, I would have understood. As it was, I thought you were confusing AM and FM. Apologies, sir. :p

Well Chrles I used to live near Knoxville, about 3 hrs north of Atlanta, and in Addition to listening to my local CHR I-100 WOKI on 100.3 and 99.9 Kiss fm WKSF Asheville NC, and DXING Power 93.3 WBBO Greenville, yes i discovered WDJX on AM 1080,, Boomed into Knoxville at night... When I moved to Southern Indiana in about 95 the AM Simulcast was gone, but I could get it on 99.7 in bedford Indiana, about 50 miles from their tower. Back in those days, WDJX was a very Dance friendly CHR in the late 80s and early 90s, till about 94 when they went into a more Adult Top 40 lean... If you ever hear WOKi in Knoxville, which was somewhat audble in Atlanta, all the way up to Cicinatti back then... WOKI I-100 was a fantastic station,,, Rock leaned, but also very Dance Friendly,, first station I heard 2 unlimited-Twilight Zone on.... WOKI and WDJX both aired Simultaniously Open House Party on Saturday Nights.... in 1992 Power 93.3 in Greenville picked up OHP as well, but WKSF and WOKI both went Country in 93-94...

But anyway,, I was wrong about one thing,,, WDJX didnt stop the AM in 94-95, but it was so highly directional that you couldnt hear it 20 miles north of the 1080 Tower, which is not the same as the 99.7 Tower atop Floyds Knobs... WDJX was a fantastic CHR, and is the last reamining of the big South CHR stations that survived the early 90s move to Mostly CHR and ALternative,,, some stations like DJX and 95 SX in Charleston evolved to Adult Top 40,,, WDJX went with a more Dance lean at that time, as did WZPL Indianapolis and WNCI Columbus Ohio...

WDJX still continues to be one of the best mid market stations around,, sounds very much like my local WNOU Indianapolis.... Im glad WDJX didnt abandon Top 40 ever, they just skewed more Adult, and More Dance, and then more Rock, and then More Rhythmic,,, they knew how to evolve with the times, just like Z-100 and KIIS.
