why not TBS/TNT?
Bigger Audience, and more money for ads than TBS/TNT can being in
people associate it with Turner channels, not Fox

Another article on 'A Christmas Story' getting the live TV treatment. I think it's a great idea. Surprised you felt such disdain for 'Christmas Story 2', Marc. I'll concede the cast wasn't equal to that of the original, but I thought it was a good story with a nice message. I think Daniel Stern clearly gave a good effort and it was a nice update.

It apparently had already been made into a Broadway musical, which doesn't sound too great to me.
I'm glad "A Christmas Story" will be made as a musical. I never saw the original until the digital upgrade for broadcast channels forced me to get cable. Maybe an outdoor antenna would have worked, but anyway ...
TBS was not on the list of channels I was supposed to get. But for some reason, I could pick it up as well as some of the lesser quality broadcast channels I could watch with rabbit ears.

Not just the ratings. imdb had nasty comments right and left. Although even a lot of the people who couldn't stand it had to admit the people were talented.
I mostly said good things in imdb. But I have to admit it seemed strange to mix the styles. The musical numbers were great, except at the beginning and the end when it was absolute garbage from the present day, not the time when the rest of it was taking place.

I recorded A Christmas Story Live to watch later and to me it wasn't that great. But then I'm not a fan of Broadway style musicals. Also, there were several places that didn't follow the storyline of the movie.
ACS2 looked like it had 1/10th the budget of the original. "Phantom of the Open Hearth," filmed for PBS in 1976, was a better story of teenage Ralphie's first date.
