A day in the life of a lamptimer

Yo, catfish (with a "C")--I thought it was a Burk remote control? I guess
the "Lumberyard lamptimer legend" trumps all. <wink>

Donate $500 to purchase a Broadcast Tools progammable timer, problem solved.

Does it have a built-in atomic clock? In order to solve the problem of
6:32:01 last night, 6:32:11 tonight...

Want to be on after sunset, donate a new Dax 5 or Nautel 5KW transmitter to KAZG.

I thought that several previous posts--especially the one with the manual
found by boiseengineer--pretty much confirmed that the Gates Five can
get cranked down real low, wattage-wise. 500, 490, 281, maybe even 52?

There is a Burk remote control at the site but a DOS computer tells the Burk what to do... the Broadcast Tools device would be able to be hooked up to the transmitter to turn it on and off and the Burke would stay to call when there's a problem and to allow the operators to call in and get the necessary readings for proper compliance..Yes the Gates 5 can go down to the pre sunrise power but it cannot work and does not work at 52 watts or it would be on the air now and no one would be discussing this..

okay...we're on it! Nurse Czarina Jeff just put in a call to the Master Blogger to ask if KT'R can do a radiothon to raise the dough. We're really excited to think Dumber and Dumbest will be shilling from 3-7, 3-7, 3-7 on Gumpdusky's behalf. Lumberyard 14~Forty is one of our favorite charities! (btw-do naming rights go with the new lamptimer?)

Hum, donate to Phoenix Children's Hospital and help sick kids or donate to Gumpdusky so that they can buy a Nautel 5KW night-time transmitter for the valley's only legitimate oldies station? Gotta go with the transmitter. Put me down for $20!

Catfish...

If a DOS PC runs the Burk then the site has an ARC-16 system with the "Autopilot-3" program there would be system time float if the memory battery died and it wasn't connected to the internet to synchronize.
This would explain the inconsistencies in the times for power changes.

And nobody figured it out until now...

If it's a DOS PC it ain't Autopilot 3. That's too new. That runs on Windowz.
I do remember the clock in the ol' AT with the 80286 processor would drift quite a bit.

As duly appointed Radio Czars of Phoenix, the Nurse Czarina and I demand an explanation as to why Gumpdusky can operate with pre-sunrise authorization, but not use their post sunset power? We are somewhat wee-weed up that Lumberyard 14~Forty is not capitalizing on government authorizations and taking a business as usual approach by operating strictly as an all day goldmine!

I hope Cat's not referring to iboc noise. It would be too awful to listen to the hits along with a bad air leak.

I fix a radio when it starts to soound like that.....

hmmmm....perhaps the Gumpdusky radiothon succeeded in raising the dough for a xmttr capable of running at 52 watts of nighttime pow-pow-power?! A tip of the fez to Dumber and Dumbest as well as the Master Blogger for airing the shameless shilling from 3-7, 3-7, 3-7.

The Nurse Czarina and I were thinking of how to market Lumberyard 14-Forty's foray into nocturnal hours...how 'bout: Three more watts than KXEG at night?..or Two and a half times more powerful than KASA with 2/3's the towers?..or Your All Day & All Night Skywave Interference Goldmine?

I think polka music played on the nighttime signal would be a cash cow, after all people do listen to KXEG at night. Wanna buy airtime?

Somehow that blazing 49 watter seems to sell time at night and keep it going 24/7. If Gumpdusky could swallow it's pride and let Lumberyard 14~Forty become the Valley's 23rd colon-blow, Bible thumping and get rich quick in real estate station, they too could make some bucks. But then again, there's something so retro about being the Valley's only daytimer!

Sounds like the Miner 49ers over at the Goldmine are currently taking a mid-morning nap. I turned on the Lumberyard a little while ago and all I'm getting is static. Everything was running fine this morning at 6:01 A.M. when they signed on with their "limited" power playing the very end of "Shout" by the Isley Brothers and again at 6:16 A.M. when they went to full day-time power during Lesley Gore's "It's My Party." Sounds like the lamptimer kicked in a little too early. Someone needs to run on over to Scottsdale and Thomas Roads and wake up those goldminers!

That lamptimer is so old...how old is it?...it's so old, the data plate is
stamped "Edison Laboratories #003." <wink>

Maybe it finally fried itself, and in doing so took the Gates Five off the air.

I hope this isn't what catfish (with a "C") meant by noise--or in this case,
lack of.

Any ideas on what the Lumberyard is going to do come Thursday when the new month begins? I've gotten quite used to the reduced-power 6:01 sign-on when I wake-up in the morning. It's the closest thing I've seen Gumpdusky get to having a proper legal ID at sign-on. Also, it further proves that KAZG could be kept on at a reduced power all night long if Gumpdusky was willing. Hopefully, the Lumberyard continues to power on early at the reduced power so that we all can enjoy some Goldmine oldies with our morning breakfast and Yoo-Hoo!

soooooo glad you axed the Czars of Phoenix radio! Come October, Lumberyard 14-Forty can run 500 watts from 6a-6:30am, at which time the Gates/Harris kicks in at 5kw. At the other end of the day, they have a slight problem after 6pm. Seems according to Catfish their xmttr is incapable of the 73 watts the Lumberyard can use between 6 and 6:30pm. They're also incapable of running 38 watts between 6:30 and 7pm. Ditto for the 28 watts between 7 and 8pm. So if Gumpdusky can't do 73, 38 and 28 watts, then it doesn't take Radio Czars to figure out they can't use that 52 watt nighttime authorization!

* a tip of the fez to KOOL Listener Hearer Lauren for the October sunrise/sunset times

* a big question mark on the fezes 'cause we still can't figure out what Catfish meant by "get ready for the noise". Maybe an all buzz saw format due to the proximity of the Ponderosa Lumberyard??

I'll bet they're incorporating a Huge, Dr. Frankenstein-sized non-inductive motorized rheo-stat that will dial up and down to the approporiate levels per time period. There'll be some noise as the wiper slides past turns on its way to net 28, 38, 52, 73, 500 watts and full power.
Probably the most noise would be when the wiper is lossing about 50% and in motion.
A motorized can of De-Oxit D5 would minimize this but needs it own lamp timer to make sure the spray would be noonish, so there's nothing
explosive left in the air when switching starts at sundown.
