A day in the life of a lamptimer

Double Godfather?

Friday night the Nurse and I were engaged in a little aural gratification when we stumbled upon Lumberyard 14~Forty playing "Close To You" by The Carpenters. "What could they possibly play after this in order to make good on their claim of being a rock'n roll oldies station?" we asked ourselves. Well, non other than the Godfather of Soul screeching out "I Feel Good". Alright...back on track!! So after the final scream and drum crescendo, the Goldminers treated us to "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag". Take that, Karen Carpenter!

Back to back Beatles, now back to back J.B. & The Famous Flames.

YIKES!

Haven't I heard some drug-songs on that station? tambourine man and the "do do do di do" song (sweet Judy blue eyes?)

(I wonder if Sheriff Joe will raid the station?)

..and just wait until he finds out Sam The Sham wasn't an Egyptian after all. The beginning countdown to Wooly Bully is in Spanglish for a reason. Call out the deputies to Lumberyard 14~Forty for a wornout oldies crime surpression sweep!

KAZG plummets from a 0.1 to not showing at all in the June PPMs. Bet the Goldminers have the sadz.

Must be "The Weight" being played every two hours that drove off the one person whose PPM stumbled across Lumberyard 14~Forty every other day. Either that, or the dude went horizontal!

Uh Oh! 1440 Sold!

"Two family-owned groups do the $85.5 million deal direct, with Minnesota-based Hubbard acquiring the Sandusky radio operations in Seattle and Phoenix. There won't be an immediate LMA. Hubbard's Ginny Morris says "this is an exciting opportunity to expand Hubbard Radio into two Top 20 markets." Each cluster has five stations. Seattle includes CHR KQMV (92.5), soft AC "Warm" KRWM (106.9), hot AC "Click 98.9" KLCK, adult standards KIXI (880) and news/talk KKNW (1150). Phoenix is classic rock KSLX (100.7), rock KUPD (97.9), rock KDKB (93.3), oldies KAZG (1440)"

Okay. That's a significant deal.

Interesting. This will put Bonneville up against Hubbard in both cities, and key executives at Hubbard came from Bonneville as part of the WTOP deal.

Does Hubbard also have the Core Values hanging on the wall?

It's deja vu all over again for catfish (small c) as he once worked for Stanley Hubbard's WGTO in Central Florida. Here's hopin' he can use his influence to protect the goldminers' cushy jobs!

Thats what they always say. Equals clear sign of the opposite.

Or, could there be a "secret agreement" (i.e. "shared services") in the works between Bonneville and Hubbard in both markets?

That's one full-size cluster. An SSA, LMA or (gasp!) purchase could get them all under one roof.

How badly does Bonneville want to stay in broadcasting? They sold off most of their stations to Hubbard a few years back, keeping Salt Lake City, Seattle, Los Angeles and Phoenix. Los Buckeye Boyz can't see Bonneville ever parting with Salt Lake, but the other markets they could. Problem is they paid top of the market prices for them and Los Angeles is a stand alone in a very fragmented market.

The World's Most Interesting Man forgot 8~Sixty...and we're sure TMISU would like to forget about that one as well!

Well, because it's technically being run by someone else right now.

If there was a mashup of the stations, then I suppose someone would make a decision as to whether 860 or 1440 was of more potential value.

Judging by this seemingly never ending thread, Lumberyard 14~Forty would be the keeper! But in all honesty, 8~Sixty, 10~Sixty and 14~Forty all need to be sold. 6~Twenty is the only keeper...until 5~Fifty becomes available ;)
