A day in the life of a lamptimer

Both 860 and 1440's signals are mediocre, but I'd have to give 860 the overall edge here. Both stations have daytime signals that are pretty much equal to each other (1440 kHZ @ 5kW = 860 @ 1kW), but 860's nighttime signal can be heard from more than a block away from its towers. I don't even think the charm of 1440 (which is what this five-year-old, 100+ page thread is about) can save it from becoming a full-time brokered format.

Might it be a brokered format with more "Seoul"?

hijacked from another thread, but deserves to be here:

Here's hoping that if The Lamptimer's day are numbered -- that they end with just one more play of Ed Byrnes "Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb" preceded by "Brown Eyed GirL"

I fear the last song to play could well be Psy's "Gangnum Style"...

YIKES! Anything but "The Weight" by The Band. Talk about taking taking a load off, Fanny!

The daytime signals for 8~Sixty, 10~Sixty and 14~Forty are at parity. But once the sun goes down and the lamptimers kick in, then there are more coverage holes than the floorboard of our '76 Gremlin. You're right.. 8~Sixty is the best of the some of the worst, but has never been a player in the ratings. Right now it seems TMISU enjoy collecting rent from their LMA tenant on 8~Sixty and haven't taken advantage of improved market conditions for Ancient Modulation stations. So if 7~Forty can fetch $2m, then Hubbard should get that amount and more for 10~Sixty and 14~Forty. Just think of the bragging rights that come with owning a piece of Lumberyard history ;D

Uh-Oh!somebody send this thread to Hubbard. Could be used as a valuable marketing tool. ;D

"Biggest radio deal of the year" (so far) is what the trades are calling it. Who knew our beloved 1440 would be part of a headline like that?

This is just the oomph that this record-setting thread needed to ensure it lasts longer than Cher's Endless Retirement Tour!

Cher's Endless Retirement Tour!

Cher 1440. Coming to a lumberyard near you. :D

(listen for the phase "If I could turn back time (lamptimer) ) in the legal ID

with 1440 playing Alley Oop do we have a politically incorrect quandary in need of an investigation?

PETA definitely does not like a guy who eats nothin' but bear cat stew.

Occupy Wall Street has a problem with anyone who has a chauffeur, even if it's a dinosaur.

Riding thru the jungle while tearing off tree limbs will not make Environmental Wackos happy.

If he's a mean motah scootah, then shouldn't he be wearing a helmet?

And knuckling someone's head before counting to fawruh, does not qualify as Stand Your Ground.

You're right...this cat is definitely PC incorrect and we'll have Martin Bashir pay a visit to the Lumberyard!

That is such an inside joke...

And I love it.

So Alley oop carton started in 1932 ? and the song in 1960. so 1946 would be when this demo was born. Using geometric logic that would make that person 67 years OLD now. Therefore Barely YOUNG ?? must listen to Alley Oop and Babinski must wear a fur loin cloth. Also the "Jungle Jive" reverence must refer to Broomhead or Glen Beck.

AM STATION APPLICATIONS FOR ASSIGNMENT OF LICENSE ACCEPTED FOR FILING

AZ BAL-20130716ABR KAZG 11272 CACTUS RADIO, INC. Voluntary Assignment of License
E 1440 KHZ SCOTTSDALE, AZ From: CACTUS RADIO, INC.
To: PHOENIX FCC LICENSE SUB, LLC
Form 314

Somehow, "PHOENIX FCC LICENSE SUB, LLC" doesn't have the same warm fuzzy feeling that Cactus Radio has.

Agreed!

Gumpdusky always put their stations into their own corporations: Cactus Radio, Inc for KSLX/KAZG; Tempe Radio, Inc for KUPD/KDUS and Mesa Radio, Inc for KDKB. So why can't Hubbard put KSLX and KAZG into something more creative...like: Slacks & Goldminers, LLC?

While diggin' the 14 in a row wornout oldies over the weekend, Nurse Jeff mentioned how great the audio sounds on Lumberyard 14~Forty compared to 12~Thirty Kay Oh Why. He's right...the Clear Channel station is flat, muddy at times, and lacks punch. Meanwhile catfish (lower case c) has the Hubbdumpsky* station firing on all cylinders. Even at night, the 52 watts from the canal bank sound better than the kilowatt from the Durango crack house. We're impressed!

* that's the LMA name come 10/1/13 if the sale doesn't close

I can't get the Goldmine at my place so can't comment on their signal but last time I listened in the car it wasn't all that good. That said, KOY isn't very good in the car either but is GREAT online. All my listening is done online as I can't get KOY at home either.

And the HD is amazing. Partly because you get about 8 seconds of standard AM and then it morphs into HD...emphasizing the quality change.
