A day in the life of a lamptimer

Don't forget nurse Jeff at Christmas time, good doc. He's earned it...lol.

Any truth to the rumor that the former Paddock Pools warehouse will be leveled so a drive-in theater can be built there? It's been a while since we snuck some Media Hut students in the trunk of the Gremlin to see a movie. hmmmm...wonder if those 52 watts from the Tower of Pow-Pow-Power will screw up the high quality sound that comes through that metal speaker which hangs on the driver's side window?

No trunk in a Gremlin--it's basically a Hornet with the trunk cut off and replaced by a tiny little rear hatch.

I have FINALLY found my first unread post here. Now I'm caught up. Wonder if I can DX the Lumberyard 14~Forty here in Tennessee. I made a trip to Phoenix a few weeks ago and never got to hear any music, just talk shows. I did manage to snap a few pics of the transmitter building and tower, though.

No, they didn't , but (other than the pursuit of a career in broadcasting) you're not crazy.

Hey, didn't KAZG used to have their own little sign on the Londen Center's sign of businesses

on the street corner? Or am I crazy?

The only signage the Nurse and I are aware of are the KDOT calls on the xmttr building. They faded out years ago (or did Gumpdusky put a coat of paint on that building?) We're wondering where Mother Hubbard is going to put all five of those stations after the sale closes. Not much economy of scale with three different locations in the current set-up.

...that's why we could only sneak 6 students in at the Scottsdale Six! That number would be less if we were driving one of those Smart For Two oversized golf carts!

Highest and best use of the shuttered Paddock Pools location on Thomas Road: 11 tower directional array for Lumberyard 14~Forty. 5kw Day, 50kw night!

Great idea, and what a boffo relationship builder between Mother Hubbard and APS and/or SRP! And every day at specified sunset time, they could announce their might with this Goldmine nugget: http://bit.ly/18rEbzD

Wow...last time I heard that was on the intro to the last hour of The Nearly Bald One on KFWhyEye 9~Ten...never made it to 5~Fifty. Guess the Chickboss figured she had the real power when she agreed to hire him back from his self imposed Circle K exile!

Speaking of Circle K...anyone notice a bunch of cars with Utah plates in front of the Londen Center and 44th & Camelback? Does this mean the closing is getting closer and the Goldminers will have a new Chick/Dude/boss to replace Chuck? Inquiring fezes want to know!!

It is a good thing that the circle k there sell booze, they will need it. Also, since 960 AM is sponsoring the "Ask a Jew" event. Maybe the Good Doctor can hold an "Ask the Lamptimer" event. You can hold it in the electrical section at Home Depot.

If they're smart, 44th St. & Camelback.

If they're smart, they'd bring someone back to fix the programming, too.

They're smart and will operate the stations differently, both in programming and sales. As far as the Londen Center goes, it's a great location in spite of being a major fugly building. If Mother Hubbard leases enough space, perhaps the owners will re-design the building in the shape of a large cupboard!

Will Mother Hubbard hop on the translator bandwagon? Could we see Lumberyard~FM? If the rumor wasn't out there already, it is now! Imagine hearing something like this in FM stereo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xuMwfUqJJM

Wait a minute, NML...even Nurse Jeff knows there's no original stereo version of Love Me Do....just re-mixes of the mono original. And Lumberyard 14~Forty is already on KDKB HD~Two, but we'd have to axe one of the two people (or is that one and a half?) who listen to it if the signal is in stereo.

So if Mother Hubbard is gifted an FM translator by the FCC for Lumberyard 14~Forty, will she abandon plans for that 11 tower array on the shuttered Paddock Pools site? There's a lot on the plate for Mom, so we hope she's ready for the challenges the goldminers present!

Would love to see the engineering study for that 11 tower array! I'm seeing a Darth Vader-esque light saber pattern that powers up and points southwest at the whim of a ...lamptimer? What's the word I'm looking for...YIKES?

I googled for that engineering study, but all I uncovered was this visual simulation of a fantasy 14~Forty sunset power/pattern change. Engage! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wag8PF2g3Mc

Our gold mine insider tells us they're waiting for five more towers....got a heck of deal on the first six: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gskUrvJKT4

Brings back the classic "I've fallen and I can't get up!!"

Ya'll must have a bunch of real estate at the old swimming pool place to handle 12 towers of POW-POW-POWER. The old ex-KLIF night time is two rows of six a half mile long...
Back in the days when you had to read base currents every 30 minutes Gordon had to buy the nighttime engineers a Jeep to drive the array just to be able to get the base current readings done in time for the next set...

For all it is the signal is very phalic shaped with the "head" pointed towards FTW..
Out here in the boonies they are a no-show at night since the signal is curb to curb wide along I-30 and 1500 miles long...But I can tell you from experience when I would turn the 50... I mean I "heard" that when the 50K was turned on at night for maintenance (yeah maintenance) it sure would PO the folks in Portland hehehehehe...

I believe we have a fairly accurate representation of the Dallas-1190 night pattern in this weatherman's map. He may be using Apple Maps, as this particular graphic would put the transmitter site near Topeka, but the shape and angle would be similar, no?

Mother Hubbard surely could plot those eleven towers a bit closer to the city of license, right? And with the same thrust and stamina we see in the illustration, look out Los Cabos! 14 in a row headed right atcha!

That would explain the incredibly clear KLIF reception we (I mean...my much older sister) experienced back in the early 70s in Colorado. Cuzzin Linnie should not have been that loud otherwise!

Definitely more than a four hour tower erection with that pattern. YIKES!!

Because Lumberyard 14~Forty is a Class D anciently modulated station, it doesn't have to put any stinkin' signal over Scottsdale at night. Therefore Mother Hubbard should use that proposed 11 tower array to put massive amounts of RF into a community where it will do the most good - Buckeye! Students attending night classes at the Media Hut would only have to be in close proximation to our '76 Gremlin's grille to hear those 14 in a row wornout oldies. No radio required!

Au contraire, herr doktor. I hate to disagree because your wisdom is so often infallible. But my thought is to use the same configuration of towers to laser-beam a 50kw signal in the opposite direction, and give the 1440 in Luxembourg something to howl about! Again, a TV weatherman's graphic best illustrates where that massive skywavish wattage would bounce back to earth on its way to wreaking havoc on Europe and elsewhere: http://bit.ly/18I6G6q

That should read....so often flacid!

Why waste that highly directional 50kw signal on Luxembourg, when it can be wasted right here in Air-Eee-Zona? After it hits Buckeye, the signal will continue west on I-10 serving Quartzsite, Blythe, Indio, and Cathedral City. Once it gets to Palm Springs, the thousands of windmills there will lift the 14~Forty signal up and over the Old Gringo's beloved City of Angels and off to the South Pacific. Plus think of all the marine life that will be groovin' on those wornout oldies!
