A day in the life of a lamptimer

All that sun must be baking your brains, guys, because you're just not thinking big enough. Never mind the horizontal pattern - why not send that 50 kilowatts straight UP? Time it right, and the space station astronauts could get "Kookie" every 90 minutes or so as they pass over the southwest!

But wait, there's more - the FCC doesn't really say anything in its rules about passive reflectors. So then maybe we can send the lovely Lauren hiking up on Piestewa Peak with a big reflector to grab just a little of that signal and bounce it back towards Buckeye. What happens once it glints off the Gremlin, I don't wanna know...

Aw heck! Further research reveals that the Luxembourg 14~Forty facility may be closing down for good as early as 2014. But turn those frowns upside down, because that would only clear the way for the monster Lumberyard 14~Forty signal to send some 14-in-a-row love all the way to this man! http://bit.ly/2pMmIN

Sure hope KOOL Listener Lauren is using plenty of anti-rattlesnake lotion when she climbs the peak formerly known as Squaw. The RF comin' off that reflector will probably put another hole in the Gremlin, but Nurse Jeff and I don't care as the A/C crapped out and we need more ventilation.

Speaking of Lumberyard 14~Forty...the goldminer in charge of artist separation must be on vacation or just doesn't care any more. Lately we're hearing the same artist being played within five or ten minutes of itself. Sometimes back to back! Good thing Edd Byrnes has only one title in the Gold Mine library. Imagine hearing that kooky song three or four times an hour. YIKES!!

This past Friday, the FCC gave the clear for Hubbard to take over Sandusky. This means in a week (or even less), Chuck will leave his palatial office at 1900 W. Carmen in Guadalupe, and the clock starts ticking on the Goldminers. Will they get a reprieve and stay at the Lumberyard for a while longer. Only time will tell...

Those wornout oldies the Goldminers mine hold Lumberyard 14~Forty together when they're not running brokered programming. But the truth of the matter is wornout oldies can't be monetized the way blocks of airtime are. Mother Hubbard owns a marginal Ancient Modulation station in the D.C. area that has an LMA operator. Los Buckeye Boyz suspect they'll do the same with Lumberyard 14~Forty...even if it means a significant increase in goldminer unemployment in Scottsdale.

YIKES!

When it's five days without a new post on the infamous Lamptimer thread, there's a problem. Maybe if Senator Ted Cruz spent 21 hours haranguing about it, at least there'd be news coverage about how there's been no solution to...or addressing of...the problem.

Talk about the elephant in the room...YIKES!

Can an elephant even fit in a Goldmine shaft? And no, I'm not talking about this again: http://bit.ly/1gG8cuU

What was that 2 pm show on 1440 am? Was it a car show or a golf show? I could not figure it out. They said every Monday at 2 pm??? help me?

Might have been a Gremlin Show. I hear those things double as passenger vehicles and golf carts. If they said it was every Monday at 2pm, and you heard it today, Tuesday, that's our Lumberyard 14~Forty! Hopefully Mother Hubbard won't change a thing!

The golf show moved from 8-10am where there were two listeners to afternoons, where there are at least double that number.

btw...'bout time as the Goldminers have been getting this for years: SHAFT by Issac Hayes in full rotation on Lumberyard 14~Forty..a Mother Hubbard station (we guess as Mom still hasn't said a word) since 2013. YIKES!

Cue the fake applause from AM 550.

...hate replying to my own quote, but someone has to keep the lights on at R-D.

Even though Mother Hubbard's corporate website doesn't mention they've closed on the Gumpdusky stations, a check of KDKB, KUPD, KSLX, KDUS and KAZG's websites contain a "copyright 2013 Hubbard Radio Phoenix LLC" at the bottom of the page.

So now that it's official, Nurse Jeff and I extend an open invitation to Chuck Artigue to become an honorary lecturer at the Buckeye Media Hut. The pay is lousy...hours are ridiculous, but he can wear his Hawaiian shirts and enjoy all the free coffee he can down in the staff lounge. That extra caffeine comes in handy when reading from the Old Gringo's autobiography!

Lumberyard 14~Forty has sprouted a page on the Hubbard site:

http://corporate.hubbardradio.com/markets/phoenix/kazg-1440-am/

"KAZG is Arizona Gold. This daytime station plays all the golden oldies hits."

Aside from the redundancy ("oldies hits"), might it be that Mother Hubbard hasn't gotten the memo about the 52 watts of night time pow-pow-power? Or is she being coy about the 50kw 11-tower nighttime application, which is no doubt stymied by the government shutdown?

The Lamptimer got a 0.2 rating in September, doubling its previous record and matching the rating of two established stations: its Hubbard sibling KDUS, and the new business-format KOY. Is this a sign that Arizona Gold is the future?

Yes indeedy! And as KOY learned, it's tough to sell those 55+ numbers. Los Buckeye Boyz smell LMA coming from Mother Hubbard's cupboard.
