A Day in the Life of an Iron Man

It went unmarked here yesterday that Thom Hartmann did another of his ten-hour-straight radio marathons, as he was filling in for the under-the-weather Randi Rhodes in addition to his two regular three-hour shifts.

Mostly because I could, I have compiled all ten hours (less pre-recorded spots and news segments -- I left in the one live Purina spot Thom read on his KPOJ morning show) from combined podcasts and captured streams into a single MP3 file.

I'm uploading it to my puny little web site right now (it looks like it will take a couple of hours), and if anyone is interested in sampling it, I'll be pleased to use up the rest of my monthly bandwidth allotment to make it available for download.

I must say, Thom actually sounded stronger in the fourth hour of Randi's show than he did in the second hour of his KPOJ show... he seems to have gotten rid of a cold in the course of the day.
______________

And like the original Iron Man, Lou Gehrig, overshadowed by a more flamboyant player and not getting the recognition he deserves.

I don't know how he does it but if I saw him do an Infomercial for vitamins, I'd sure order some. Or maybe it's NLP.

The best reason for Franken to run for office (where he can't do any harm) is to give Hartmann his shot in the sun.

Really don't understand how Hartmann can do ten hours and be anywhere near the top of his game.
______________

You'll be amazed at how sharp he is in the tenth hour if you take the time to download the file and sample it.

It turned out to be too big earlier, so I re-generated it at half the bitrate (took a couple hours, I used Audacity as the editor to put together the three MP3 source files of divergent sampling and bitrates) and am uploading all 40+MB of it now.

As soon as it's up, I'll post the URL here.
______________

It's up now: A Day in the Life of an Iron Man

Download it while you can at http://gug.in/gabmg.

It's 43 MB, pushing my disk quota, so it won't be there long. I'll probably pull it down as soon as my transfer quota is reached, or Sunday night, whichever comes first.

Enjoy!
______________

Actually, nine hours, but still impressive

I don't think Hartmann actually did ten consecutive hours, since I heard a Rhodes "best of" during the first hour of her show. But Hartmann did do the last three hours of the Rhodes time slot, so nine hours in one day was still pretty impressive.

BTW, Franken is doing live shows in front of audiences this week and, as usual, sounds much better than when he's in a radio studio. Today he's in Fresno.

Ah, thanks for the correction. I didn't hear the first hour of Randi's show live (didn't tune in until after 5PM eastern), and I just plugged the podcast iTunes downloaded into the compilation without listening to it, as it didn't require editing. I just presumed that Thom had done the whole show.

Even with an hour's break between hours 6 and 7, his performance is impressive.
______________

Hartmann? Thank God - I thought this was gonna be another industry puff piece about the execrable Lars Larson...

A slight misspelling.

execrable:

adj.

1. Deserving of execration; hateful.
2. Extremely inferior; very bad: an execrable meal.
