KB... Congrats on doing the Star Trek equivalent of AM radio – and going where few men have gone before [since about 1969], in your purchase of the Meduci tuner. I’m sure Jeff will take very good care of you, as he has been advised to follow this thread.
TWO words of warning:
First, DO NOT overload the RF input of this tuner. In-fact, Jeff warns against the use of long-wire “Beverage-style” antennas [probably because of lightning]. I use an amplified inside antenna [the Dymek DC-9] that can be dialed-down to the minimum amplified RF gain—and my feedback is based-on such. I have not tried my C Crane TCF antenna yet, because its high gain on hard-wired feed CANNOT be regulated, and its best performance is with its inductively-coupled ferrite probe [there is no internal antenna to capture that on the AMX-2000]. For casual “local” listening with some out-of-town spice, the best antenna for the Meduci is the Terk AM Advantage. A tunable and directional antenna is a MUST [especially when IBOC wanders onto the property].
Secondly – THIS IS NOT A DX-ORIENTED AM TUNER... Its very-wide bandwidth explains that... It appears to be designed for “close-in” high audio quality [C-QUAM] AM reception. It CAN be “forced” into a patiently-mitigated “DX” mode IF the appropriate [and exotic] antenna is attached, but be prepared for plenty of that good ‘ole-fashioned 10khz “superhet”. YEAH-BABY
I hope you enjoy your new ["old"] AM tuner, KB... ‘Let’s compare notes!
