A Glut of Talk Shows (Step right up! There's one for everybody!)

Step right up folks, Professor Raccoonradio here with the miracle cure! Talk shows for your station!
Want ad dollars for low cost...want to actually break even? Run your station on the cheap with
syndicated shows, for your "computer in a closet". Why, friends, people have been telling me there
are too many syndicated shows and specialized networks but I say that's a bunch of hooey! There
are talk NETWORKS here for everyone, just step right up!

And remember our motto, folks: Quantity, not quality!!

You say you want sports. Why we have ESPN, Fox Sports, and Sporting News and if that isn't
enough we'll create more. Politics? More than enough conservative shows and a few liberal ones, too.
We got shows from Westwood One, TalkRadioNetwork, ABC, Premiere, Jones, Air America! Put your
local host out of work and replace him with Jerry Doyle!

How about a women's talk network, you say? Got one right here, Greenstone Media. And a black talk
network, too, with shows about politics, lifestyle, and sports. Religious talk, got that too.

We've got TV personalities who've never done a radio show before--oops, THIS one is leaving to run
for the Senate: good luck, Mr. Franken...and why, yes, here's a new one...didn't I see that guy on
Monday Night Football and Saturday Night Live?

And remember our motto, folks: Quantity, not quality!!

We got failed politicians, authors, people with crappy voices...they got shows, all of them! And if that isn't
enough we're ready to create some more talk radio networks!

GOLDEN YEARS: Talk for senior citizens
RADIO DISNEY TALKS: Your 12 year old can gab about movies, TV shows, gaming, skateboarding, on
the first talk radio network for kids. We've got ears!

We got a gay and lesbian talk network here, folks...let's see, what else:
WOOF WOOF: Talk shows about your dog, and FOR your dog!
ANNA NICOLE NETWORK: The first talk network exclusively for talk about the dead superstar!
GAME SHOW RADIO NETWORK: Trivia contests and more!
THE WEATHER TALK NETWORK: Where everybody TALKS about the weather but nobody can do
a damn thing about it!
INSOMNIAC NETWORK: Only on in the wee hours!
SMALL TALK: Talk for short-statured people

Step right up!
(Note: the talk networks starting with "golden years" are fictional...but who's to say there won't someday
be a talk network for kids or seniors? In fact, rest homes are using a service called Companion Radio and
I think they may have talk shows geared toward the elderly..and I believe there is a dwarf who hosts
a show by the "small talk" name...)

And remember our motto, folks: Quantity, not quality!!

In some ways that's already happened. There are people who turn on the camera and make a YouTube video
where they just talk about stuff, or they make a podcast show for the Net...And I know up in Toronto
CHUM/MuchMusic (whomever owns them) had a booth set up where you could pay a buck or two (goes to
charity) and record your own rant/statement, etc. (spoofed at one point by Royal Canadian Air Farce)

but yes sooner or later everyone gets their own show! it seems.

You've also got WOR with a 24/7 schedule. Some syndicators, such as Westwood and Jones, offer more than one show at a particular time. Then there's also Salem. There are regionally syndicated shows such as Rose and Quinn out of Pittsburgh. There are other small/startup/one-show syndicators such as Nova M, Kim Komando, and Sally Jessy is back in talk radio! And doesn't Dr. Laura self-syndicate now? Plus, how about the Free FM shows (O&A, Adam Carolla) that are syndicated. Then there are the music-talk hybrids such as Delilah, John Tesh, the Dream Doctor, Tom Joyner.

So much for "local" AM and FM radio. That's why the NAB is hypocritical when it argues against the Sirius/XM merger by complaining about the effect it might have on local radio.

What local radio?

You think things are bad for local talk, what about stations that have music formats? Here in Pittsburgh there aren't more than at most maybe 15 minutes per day of local music on all of the commercial music format stations in town combined!

That ISN'T a good thing??? Most local bands suck. Thank God stations have enough sense to keep most of it off the air.

BRILLIANT!

Did ANYONE ever consider putting together a network of ENTERTAINING hosts? There's a unique idea: show after show where the personality of the host is the draw. Imagine that: No matter what they talk about, they're interesting. WOW!

Just a pipedrea, perhaps. I guess you would need programmers who have an ear for talent. Unfortunately, that's more rare than the entertaining talent.

Most local bands suck.

I thought you hadn't worked in music format radio in years. How familiar are you with the local bands in Pittsburgh?

Oh, I see. Now I have to be working in music radio to make a judgement about whether local bands are any good.

Pull your head out of your bias.

it is too much of the same crap...I WAS hoping Savage would have done that show with the co host and the 5 characters..he ask for people to send in tapes....I guess he decided against it
