I would just add that you can still be successful and make a lot of money in radio if you are willing to to be the mercenary. Understand that you are a hired gun and focus on using all your tools to secure the position you want. It's about advertising, always has been. If you, as an on-air personality, programming head, marketing guru or AE, have the relationship with your consumer (both client and listener) that creates revenue streams, then management can't afford to cut you. Even if there is a management change and the new idiot suits do, the competition will grab you up quickly.

Be the mercenary. Focus and depend on your talents. Invest in yourself. Invest in your team and what you provide, but do not share what you are doing that is working. Be the understanding wizard. Trust me, the suits don't understand. Keep them guessing and keep them paying for your unique value.

It's worked for me.
