A Silver Lining in the Midst of an era of Change....

You know, with ALL the tumult going on since last Wednesday, when Sirius merged with XM, here's my perspective on the whole thing:

1) Funny thing - since last Wednesday, my reception has ACTUALLY improved like 300% - i live in an apartment building with one window facing in the right direction - prior to 11/12, it would take like several hours sometimes for my reception to come up to speed - now it's been coming up VERY quickly, and I LOVE IT!!

2) On the soul/urban/R&B side, i tend to lean more towards the older era music (60's/70's/early 80's) and continue to be happy with SoulTown 53 (even though there was one VERY notable change in terms of DJs... :( (but for me, SoulTown 53 has been VERY consistent throughout (i am a Sirius subscriber since 2/12/07) and i am VERY pleased with it... i actually had listened to "Soul Street" (62?) a couple of times when AOL had the deal with XM, but...SoulTown 53 "is the place to be", so... ;)

3) The pop side to me is MOSTLY unchanged - but again, 'cos i lean towards the older era music, all the hubbub has relatively unaffected me - I LOVE 70's on 7 (formerly Totally 70's) as well as 50's on 5 and 60's on 6 (formerly Sirius Gold - I miss the "Doowopp Gold" show - and 60's Vibrations). i'm GLAD to hear the 40's on 4 and i am VERY happy that Jonathan Schwartz is on the new Sirius-XM doin his whole Sinatra thing (thank God that he and Nancy worked out their differences!)

4) And the whole holiday thing? I have no problem with it...i heard Darlene Love's take on "Marshmallow World" (Holly on Channel 81) - speaking of which, "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector"? Classic for ANYONE's Christmas library, NO MATTER WHAT!!

Andrea,
As anyone who's ever seen me post on these boards can attest too, I have both Serious and XM.
In order for me to get reception in my house in Bensalem, PA, I had to put up an external antenna (facing Northeast) to get any sort of reception consistancy with Serious.
On the 12th, I had recorded Brucy from Serious 5, and when takeing off the excess stuff (after 9:00 PM), I had noted that my reception dropped out. This has been very rare since I aded the external antenna.
It should be interesting to see what happens tonight with all the Storms/Tonado wornings, etc.
PS: Never had any problems with XM drop outs, and that antenna is indoors.

well, i hope that we BOTH have good reception - they keep saying we're supposed to get a bit of "action" tonight up here as well... ???

I can only speak from the XM side because we subscribe to XM. The "sound" of Suite 62 was better than Heart & Soul. It just took a different vibe with us. Musically they may be the same, but the Heart & Soul ID just brings the room down. Suite 62 makes it sound exclusive to me. In other words, Suite 62 invited you into an exclusive club or VIP room. Now that feeling is lost for me.
