A wait and see period of who in the Triad will flip to Oldies........

There is a huge demand for a good Oldies station in the Traid. The Majic 94.1 deal was done very dirty and many loyal listeners are now crushed! I predict that WIST-FM Country Legends will flip to Oldies very soon. 98.1 out of Galax already has this area covered for Country Oldies. WIST-FM 98.3 would do good to hire Max McGann and the Shark. Majic 94.1 was a very good station in many ways, but they played way too much 80`s crap. The Oldies format will return here very soon....

WIST needs to have someone answering the phone during business hours. When you call the station the phone rings & rings and finally you have the opportunity to leave a voice mail if you punch in the letters of someone's last name. Its not good for business to have your telephone ring & ring during normal business hours. It gives the impression that they are really hurting. And Jake Bogan if you should go oldies, please don't hire Max McGann and the Shark. It appears they didn't help the last oldies station they were associated with. I think "change" is on the way, maybe something with a south of the border and taco flavor. Of course Don Curtis might want 98.3, it would give him another FM in the market, but does he want to write another check before he figures out what to do with WSJS.

WIST has NO staff. With Wes out right now (if he is still out) there is no one there. Automation answers the phone cause automation is running the station.
It gives the impression that they are really hurting.
That would be the proper impression.

Speaking of Wes, any news?

Christopher: I’m doing fine and the station’s are doing fine. Been back for two weeks now. I did answer the phone many times today. We had a listener comment line at one time that is now just a roll off for the request line. Good to see my old friend Randy on the board. Business line 336-887-0983, request line 336-885-0983! Thanks for the concern’s of my recent health issues.

Wes

Good to hear you are doing great and are in better heath!
We all wish for better heath for the industry and all local stations including WIST. It serves a place here and hope that some of the signs that radio will be picking up spill over on your place.

Wes Jones is WIST! Wes has been the mainstay at that radio station for years. He use to work for Gig Hilton but Gig never understood Wes's worth to that little station and let him slip away.

WIST is a small station, but I don't think they're hurting. They'll never have much in the way of ratings because of their signal, but that doesn't mean the station's in trouble. I know a couple of people who work there and they seem to think things are fine. Plus, I hear the station playing in businesses and know quite a few people who really like that old country music. Also, whenever I have had to call there, the phone was answered with no problems. Makes me wonder why you have had problems? Maybe calling a request line, or other defunct number?

A full-service gas station I go to in the area has commercials on WIST. They used to play the station too. And they had a supply of window stickers and I picked up two. I was going to the station anyway, although I didn't buy much gas. Just enough to justify getting my tires and under the hood checked. I doubled the amount of gas I bought there after hearing a commercial on WIST. It was my small way of contributing to their success.

I'll go back to not buying much gas if WIST changes. WBRF isn't worth hearing and I like the way WIST does country music.

I disagree about WBRF. They are a little broad in their playlist, but they have live announcers! AND, they play some great bluegrass music. It's just different from WIST.

Punish the gas station for the actions of the radio station? Sounds kinda unbalanced or something.

But I reward them because I'm hearing my music.

More often than not, if WBRF (or possibly WLUS) messes up my signal, the music is garbage. That's not what I will be switching to. I can turn to any station and maybe hear one or two songs I like. That's not going to keep me listening.

That's small-world thinking at its worst.
The gas station can't control the WIST format.

Well, I've noticed they're not playing it in the station any more. They're playing junk which goes by the name country.

I suppose I could reward them for all the times they were airing commercials that I just didn't happen to hear.

You can punish or reward them for anything you want, but try and make it not so obtuse for them to figure out "Hey, that's why vchimpanzee doesn't stop by anymore." I doubt many people would connect "they play my music" to "that's why I buy gas there" without some semaphore or something. At least give them a headsup.

I did tell them why I increased my purchases. I'm not in the area that often, so they probably don't remember me.

I got to say that would likely stand out. They're probably still having daily meetings trying to piece together you telling them that, going through the parking lot footage like the Zapruder film, trying to make some semblance of it all.

With the news that WBRF-FM 98.1 is now playing Oldies, I hear rumors that Curtis is about to take WSJS-AM in Winston-Salem to Oldies!!!! Has anyone else heard this???

WBRF has mixed in COUNTRY oldies with its regular country and junk for years. Surely that's what you mean.

I can't see a locally oriented news and information station going oldies. Not in this day and age. Maybe WMFR. Hopefully WMFR. Possibly WCOG.
