So I was just flipping through the dial when I tuned into the only radio station around here playing decent music, AAA WWVV-FM (Wave 104.9 - World Class Music). Imagine my surprise when I discover it's playing Christmas music. In between is a male voice, not a voiceover, stating, "104.9 is John FM...John tells us what to play. John wants to hear Christmas music so that's what we're playing. 104.9 John FM."
WTF?!?!
This is no doubt a result of WWVV being sold to South Carolina-based Broomfield Broadcasting back in June. While I can [EDIT] all I want about this, it's happened. My question now is what are they thinking? I sincerely hope that this is just a stunt until after the holidays, as an Adult Hits station on that signal strength is silly, especially with WSGA (Freedom 92.3) and WGCO (98.3 JACK FM) already covering that format. Conventional wisdom of stations going all-Christmas then flipping tells us that, sadlly, Wave 104.9 is dead after the holidays so what exactly could Broomfield place on this signal that would work unless they're getting/planning a signal boost which I also doubt as that would bleed into WSGA.
Any thoughts out there?
