Aaron Brown, Former CNN Anchor and Influential Newsman, Dies at 76

A wonderful news anchor that will be missed greatly. Part of a great team with Harry Wappler and Wayne Cody on KIRO (both up in the skies), and his coverage of 9/11 needs no explanation. NewsNight was a popular program on CNN.
May he RIP. :cry:

Was he also on KING or KOMO in the early '80s? I lived up there for a couple of years (80-82) and remember watching him anchor the news, but I thought it was on one of those other stations at the time.

Update: I see from @formeraa on the Sea-Tac board that Brown worked at KING-TV as well as KIRO, so perhaps he was at KING in the early '80s when I lived there.

I first remember him from ABC News and hosting Good Morning America Sunday (90’s precursor to GMA Weekends).

I enjoyed his Newsnignt program as it was one of the last decent hard news programs on cable news even though people thought it was too cerebral or dull.

Both him and Paula Zahn their first CNN appearances ahead of when they were actually supposed to appear on 9/11. I know Zahn’s appearance caused trouble with her exit clause from Fox News but I don’t recall Brown having trouble.

Yep, was on KING before he went to KIRO.
I've watched the NewsNight broadcasts (on YouTube) from the days following Hurricane Katrina. CNN did a fantastic job with their coverage, and so did Aaron himself, interviewing the people that needed to be interviewed.

In fact, if memory serves, Aaron, Tony Ventrella, (who just passed in the fall,) and Jeff Renner were the news/sports/weather combination that led to the highest share for a local newscast EVER (that's right, nationwide, and obviously will never be surpassed.) It was the 11 PM News on KING 5 in the early/mid 80s. Not sure who would have been doing late nights on KOMO & KIRO at the time. KOMO had Koppel to lead into at least, but obviously around that time Carson was king (no pun intended) and KING was a magnet for viewers in Puget Sound at a time when late-night cable programming was not all that engaging.

IIRC, KOMO newscasts in the early '80s timeframe (when I lived up there) were anchored by Jim Harriott. He had been at WMCA in the early '60s, moving to ABC News after that. Eventually he made his way to KOMO and later, IIRC, CNN.
