ABC O&O's airing World News Tonight Encores at 7:30 ET/PT all this week

I wonder why Fox doesn't have Network evening news at 6:30pm like the other networks?

Because it allows 6:30 pm local news to exist, just like how it allows 10 pm local news to exist whereas otherwise, it wouldn't be possible.

Example... Southwest Florida. WXCW (via WINK) and WFTX are both on at 6:30 and 10:00 p.m. But if FOX were to put national news at 6:30, WXCW would still provide an option. But here in South Florida, where I live, because WSVN is the only one on at 6:30 p.m., I wouldn't get that option anymore if that were to happen, unless WSFL is also on at 6:30 p.m. too. Then I give you Central Florida and Tampa Bay where WOFL and WTVT respectively are both on at 6:30 p.m. Take those away for FOX's national broadcast and there's no 6:30 p.m. news in those markets either.

Face it, being on at 6:30 is wonderful for these markets and viewers would be lost or tuning in elsewhere for local news if the FOX affiliates aren't doing so at that critical timeslot. Yes, I said critical.

After WBTV and WSOC moved their network news to 6:30, no one had local news in Charlotte at 6:30 until WJZY started their hourlong 6:00 news, save for a short lived 6:30 newscast on WCCB years ago. And WBTV briefly moved the CBS Evening News back to 7 for a 6:30 news but it didn’t last long. WSOC could start a 6:30 on WAXN but they did start an hourlong 7:00 news for WAXN in January.

I remember that they did, many years ago. I think Morton Dean was the anchor. It may have just been on weekends.

Dean anchored CBS's Sunday evening news in from the mid-'70s through the mid-'80s. He spent time with ABC after that. He never worked for Fox, and I can find no reference anywhere to a national Fox evening newscast.

He never worked for FOX. He worked for CBS and ABC with a three-year stint at INN: The Independent News from the studios of WPIX New York.

That maybe what I'm thinking of. It might have aired on a Fox station.

Yes. Either INN or USA TONIGHT, but syndicated and produced by WPIX/New York, an Independent at the time.

I called WABC and they said that Wheel being in repeats this week was specifically the reason for the WNT encores. Wheel will "99% likely" be back at 7:30 on the O&O's next week since it's new episodes.

However, April 13-17 is also repeats for Wheel (replacing a pulled week promoting UK vacations), so the WNT encores may resume then.

All of next week's Wheel episodes are now listed at 1:07 AM on WABC, so the WNT encores will indeed resume. Nobody aired them this week since Wheel was new episodes.

Since Wheel shut down production a while ago, their produced episodes run out on May 1. If the WNT encores continue long-term starting May 4, this would not be good for Wheel's ratings at all, especially since Jeopardy! has never been affected by all this, and their episodes do not run out until four weeks later on May 29. I think most people would rather watch a game show, even if it's reruns, than a repeat of a news program that aired just one hour prior, and yet another reminder of these tough times, especially when ABC already pulled Strahan Sara & Keke for the time being for pandemic-centric newscasts.

But given that most networks and affiliates are biased towards Jeopardy! because of its recent popularity surge, it won't surprise me in the least if the WNT encores replacing Wheel becomes long-term starting May 4, and J! reruns air at the regular time slot after May 29 but WNT continues to replace Wheel after then, if the pandemic is still serious that far out.

(yes, I'm prepared to get attacked for this post)

It’s almost like there’s a pandemic happening. Decisions need to get made. It’s a remarkably silly thing to prattle
on about bias. There’s a reason things are done the way they are, and it isn’t someone being (cue toddler whining voice) unfair about one program or another.

As much as I've been a fan of Wheel and Jeopardy!, I have to also realize the shows are becoming rather dated. It's too bad, because most game show concepts that have followed since then have even less substance. What I've seen on Game Show Network isn't very impressive.

KABC Los Angeles and KGO San Francisco have opted not to air the WNT encores this week; Wheel is on right now on both stations. The other five O&O's that aired them last week: WABC New York, WPVI Philly, WLS Chicago, KFSN Fresno, and WTVD Raleigh, are continuing them.

No doubt there is an audience for culling snippets of past broadcasts to get their information.

Is this a local thing, but Kimmel starts at 11:35, breaks for 30 for Nightline at 12:05 and resumes at 12:35 - 1:05.
