ABC offering buyouts to NABET workers in News and Daytime in NYC

I know alot of local stations are starting to go with an automated control room, but I'm kind of surprised a national news network would have an automated control room.

Does anyone know any other news networks that have automated control rooms?

One thing I would like to see -- a local station's automated newscast during GMA crashing, forcing them to return to network early, only for GMA to crash as well.

What do you do?

I hate to say this, but I will... That would be funny and awesome at the same time. I guess they would go to trouble slate if everything is in black.... but what would you do, if the network went down, your local station's automated newscast goes down, and you have your master control in a HUB 200+ miles away, and the person operating it is handling another station that is in trouble. That could lead to some nastiness.

Have a 3/4" dub of Family Ties handy.

I don't know if any of the posters ever worked for NABET in NYC, but I did at one point. In my view, it was trained monkey land. You got paid huge loads of money to babysit equipment and do what people in other unions told you to do. No individual initiative. In fact, those who did more than what was expected got black-listed. I was very happy to leave. These people will not suffer one bit. I was low level, and I made close to 6 figures, so all of these people were well paid, and their contract ensures they will get something like one month of pay for very year of work, meaning that many will never have to work again. I bet a lot of them will take the money, then sign on as outside contractors.

I worked at a local affiliate and a member of the IBEW. Same thing. I worked from 4-mid and always got screwed out of overtime. I'll never work under another union.
