About the pending Tribune-to-Nexstar sale

So far, we know that most Tribune stations are in the process of being sold to Nexstar Media Group. But what about the subchannels This and Antenna TV as well as Tribune Studios?

All are included in the merger agreement with Nexstar. There are some rumors that Nexstar does not really want these assets or WGN America, but it is unknown if they will keep them long-term or not.

If the Nexstar/Tribune Deal were to be finalized by both the DOJ, FCC and SEC. Nexstar will consider pay subscriptions for their streaming 24 Hour News outlets like in San Francisco where Nexstar has Kron-ON on their app. This is Nexstar trying to get app viewers in San Francisco before CBS San Francisco launches CBSN San Francisco edition to get viewers.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nexstar and Scripps could swap Antenna TV for any of Scripps Diginets from Laff, Bounce, Escape, etc when Scripps is buying WXMI Fox17 once Nexstar & Tribune merger goes final. Maybe TEGNA buys Antenna TV since they have that channel on many markets outside where there isn't a Tribune TV station in the same market get rid of OnTarget Weather channel which is OTA only as TEGNA wanted the pay TV companies to put Quest on in the lineup.

Court TV is going to replace This TV on Nov 1ST on Fox17 as I think that is when Tribune & MGM partnership ends on This TV which I never watch as I don't watch the diginets other than Justice every now and then.

As Mentioned in other places WJW 8 has other things at play such as how Nexstar will handle the stations they took over from Tribune. WJW is one of them. But the persistent rumor that Fox (The Murdoch Owned Company) will get KCPQ, WJW and KDVR for NFL Broadcast reasons. Also the question over other stations having their editions of KRON-on will be in discussions.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The question of who will end up owning Cleveland Fox affiliate WJW Channel 8 should be settled soon, but “soon” could mean a couple of days, weeks or months. The key is how fast government regulatory agencies will move on necessary approvals, and that is never easy to predict.

Channel 8 is one of 42 Tribune Media stations that the Nexstar Media Group is purchasing in a deal valued at $6.4 billion. If approved by the Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission, the acquisition announced in early December will make the Texas-based Nexstar the country’s largest owner of TV stations.

Tribune has owned Channel 8 since 2013. Nexstar, which gradually has built a media empire by purchasing small groups of stations, offered $4.1 billion in cash to buy the Chicago-based Tribune Media Group stations. The $6.4 billion figure includes the assumption of Tribune Media debt.

The deal will bring Nexstar’s total to 216 stations in 118 markets, reaching 39 percent of U.S. television households. It will leapfrog ahead of the Maryland-based Sinclair Broadcast Group, which tried and failed to win government approval for buying the Tribune stations. It also will give Nexstar stations in eight of the nation’s top 10 TV markets, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Here is another for Nexstar some leadership changes

Nexstar Media Group today announced that Matthew Rosenfeld and Traci Wilkinson have been promoted to senior vice president and regional manager of Nexstar Broadcasting.

The company said the appointments reflect Nexstar’s strategy to promote from within and from acquired entities “by identifying proven broadcast and digital media leaders to oversee its assets on a regional basis.”

Rosenfeld and Wilkinson’s promotions are effective immediately upon the completion of Nexstar’s acquisition of Tribune Media, which is expected to occur in third quarter of 2019.

Sources tell FTVLive that all the Nexstar stations have been sent a new copyright to place at the end of their newscasts.

The wording is all the same, but the graphic includes references to the Tribune stations now being a part of Nexstar.

The stations were told that they must start airing the new copyright close starting today.

Wow this is in the Middle of the AT&T Dispute with Nexstar.

They updated the article that says Nexstar is holding off on the new copyright for now on the Tribune TV Stations there buying. I'm guessing that the merger could be approved any time now. I haven't seen the new copyright on Wood TV newscasts looks the same to me didn't notice it.

Also consider if the Nexstar/Tribune deal was approved today then expect stations like KTLA Los Angeles to also get blocked by AT&T if the Nexstar dispute is not resolved.
