AC Music and Local Radio Stations Played Inside Water Parks, Auto Parts Stores, Restaurants...

I also remembered one interesting thing is...When I do go to water parks and such including Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in Arlington, Texas. They play a mixture of stuffs that Mainstream AC, Classic Rock, Classic Hits, Hot AC, and CHR play with most of the contents being Mainstream AC stuffs. Hurricane Harbor broadcast more Hot AC and CHR on their music playlist across their parks. But, we also get "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", "One Thing Leads to Another", "Kokomo", and "Car Wash" by Rose Royce along with "Chained to the Rhythm" kind of stuffs. The other smaller water parks I go to in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area like two of the Hawaiian Falls, NRH2O, and Denton Water Works play a mixture of old and new music. NRH2O plays "Little Lies". I had thought NRH2O may play more gold stuffs than most other water parks locally here. All these water parks are equally family-oriented with the slides and wave pool as usual.

It varies, it's that kind of stuffs where you hear music in shopping malls and restaurants. I also liked the local Dunkin' Doughnuts in Arlington, Texas that I went to a lot when I was still attending in-person classes at University of Texas at Arlington between early 2017 and early 2020. They play mostly 70s stuffs and maybe early 80s stuffs if I do remember. "Magnet and Steel", "Ventura Highway", "Night Fever", it's been a while since I could remember any of the 70s stuffs they played in 2017 and 2018.

I was starting my second Bachelors Degree at the time. A lot of the freshman and sophomore level Computer Science classes were easier for me, so I tend to spend more time stopping by Dunkin' and eating inside the restaurant. And the first time in my life I ever heard "Magnet and Steel" was hearing it inside Dunkin' while eating inside in August 2017. It turns out that Tyler Media Classic Hits 92.5 KOMA Oklahoma City used to play "Magnet and Steel" in September 2017 when I do look at their playlist. I can't remember if Audacy Classic Hits 98.7 K-LUV Dallas played it either. I think I saw it on their playlist as well. I listen to Mainstream AC most of the time. Soft AC WGVX Minneapolis is actively playing it now.

So, that same year of 2017. Around September 2017, I went to the Traders Village Flea Market which is consist mostly of Mexican shoppers in Grand Prairie, Texas for a small 2-day comic-con event. While I was there, they had a food concession with Subway in which I think is owned and operated by the park operators itself. It's a large one with hundreds of indoor tables and outdoor picnic tables. They were also blasting their own music playlist and the call out their slogan a lot. Guess what it says? "Playing the best of the 2000s to today". I don't know what program they're using. And keep in mind this is a flea market for the whole family although it's Hispanic-oriented. Their playlist were a lot of Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato kind of stuffs.

Speaking of the Hispanic community, every time I go to get my Driver's License renewal in Irving, Texas, to the thrift shops, and to the AutoZone and O'Reilly and various auto parts store in Irving and Grand Prairie, Texas that's operated by the Hispanic community, mainly Mexicans and most of their customers are also the same ethnic and nationality groups. I often hear they set their in-store music tuned into our local OTA Classic Hits KLUV or Adult Hits KJKK. In the late 2000s and early 2010s they turned into our past AC KVIL a lot. Since 2017, they turned into our current AC KDGE a lot. For the Texas DPS (DMV) and most AutoZone and O'Reilly auto part stores in the Hispanic-oriented region of Irving, Texas, KLUV is played in-store, even back in mid-2010 when KVIL was playing more gold AC stuffs.

I believe the reason behind this has to do a lot with the reason because most of the auto part stores and thrift shops throughout Irving, Grand Prairie, and Dallas in Texas are often operated by older groups of Latinos in their 40s and 50s (mainly Mexicans) still working to make a living and their customers are mostly consistent of Mexicans in their 40s and 50s who still drive older 2000 Toyota Camry and Ford Focus vehicles with high mileage above 200,000 miles who are frequently looking for parts and supplies to keep their vehicle operating and maintained. The same group who often service their own vehicles at home to save money like my family and a couple of other Vietnamese people do.

These Latino groups in our auto part stores often play our local Classic Hits KLUV in store 80% of the time. The other 20% of the time, they play our local Classic Rock KZPS, AC KDGE, or Adult Hits KJKK. I think when it comes to an auto part stores, tire, brake, or strut repair shop, or an auto body shop with a bunch younger and newer Hispanic & Non-Hispanic white auto mechanics, they're more likely to tune into our local Hot AC KDMX or either of our Cumulus Country KSCS or KPLX.

Even KVIL had a narrow playlist for an AC that they hardly rotate anything in and out throughout each year throughout 2008 through 2012. KVIL did played a good select of 70s, 80s, and 90s, "Tempted" by Squeeze, "How Sweet It Is", "Love is the Answer", "I Don't Want to Live Without You" by Foreigner, "Another Sad Love Song", "Take a Bow", "Here and Now". I still like KMGL OKC and KODA Houston a whole lot more than KVIL Dallas in 2010 and 2011.

I'm a Vietnamese and a lot of the Vietnamese grocery stores and restaurants I went to in Arlington and Grand Prairie, Texas plays mostly KVIL throughout the early 10s. Even after KVIL dropped all music before 1990 and took the "Fresh AC" approach in May 2013. By late 2014 and early 2015 when KVIL had really morphed into Hot AC and focused mostly on 10s music (recurrents and currents of the time) and a few 00s. Neilsen switched it to the Hot AC board in 2014. Both the Vietnamese-oriented Hong Kong supermarket and Saigon Taipei supermarket in Arlington was still playing KVIL out loud in their stores. TNL Vietnamese supermarket in Irving also played KVIL in their store since we moved to Irving, TX in 2003. We stopped going to TNL since their management got bad in 2012 and they started selling food that's nearly spoiled.

In fact, I lived-in Texas since 2003 and I still remembered these current Asian and Vietnamese supermarkets and restaurants and the past ones that had died like the one in Arlington that sold Pho, I forgot the name, had always played KVIL throughout the 2000s.

KVIL, like most mainstream AC were pretty gold in the mid-2000s. By now, KVIL is gradually doing better with its current Adult Alternative and KDGE is successful with its current Mainstream AC in 6+.

Since 2017, I noticed both Saigon Tapei and Hep Tai supermarkets start playing either Hot AC KDMX or CHR KHKS in their store most of the time. They had been playing KVIL in their stores for decades, perhaps since the 1990s before I moved-to Texas in 2003 and that KVIL may had been a loyal AC to a lot of baby boomer Vietnamese people living in North Texas. The whole thing with KVIL "Fresh AC" approach in 2013 may had inspired the majority of these Vietnamese supermarkets and restaurants in Texas to play Hot AC KDMX or CHR KHKS in their premise over the past seven years. It may be because we have large growing population of younger Vietnamese people and other East Asian groups like South Korean, Chinese, and Filipinos here in the DFW area. I'm not sure if that's inspiring more East Asian stores and restaurants to play our local Hot AC or CHR in their stores and restaurants. I'm doubtful if the new K-Pop and J-Pop culture has any influence on this.

Meanwhile, a lot of American and Mexican local restaurants and stores in Irving and Arlington, Texas have been tuning into our new local AC KDGE since 2017 and some went with our local Classic Hits KLUV or Adult Hits KJKK. The Subway near my house in Irving had always been playing KDGE since 2017 and KDGE switched formats from Adult Alternative to AC after X-Mas 2016. Meanwhile, the new AutoZone that opened near my house in 2018 that once used to be a Blockbuster 14 years ago had been playing Adult Hits KJKK since their opening.
