Adam Carolla turned down a $500K offer to be on SF radio...

I was listening to the BS report (Bill Simmons' podcast) recently, Adam said on there that he recently turned down $500K to work morning drive on a station here, but it would be broadcast out of L.A. Does anyone know about this? Could it have been Live 105 before they decided to syndicate mornings?

This sounds like b.s. It's doubtful with radio and this market the way they are that anyone out of market with no track record of boffo ratings would be offered that kind of money.

He actually had good ratings, Free FM doesn't exist due to the high expense of the format...

Musicfan...no, he didn't. He was buried by a number of local morning shows. Having had access to all the Arbitron data at the time he was on, he was no prize as far as ratings.

But he was considered a success because he actually got better numbers than the other guys who CBS brought in to replace Howard Stern.

You mean David Lee Roth? I don't think that makes you a "success," just 'less of a failure?'

No - Carolla aside, Free FM doesn't exist anymore because the overall ratings were poor, and because it was an unmitigated disaster of a radio station...examples: Darien O'Toole's on-air meltdown and subsequent firing; not to mention John London's supposed "death threat" against Penn Gillette, and subsequent firing.

I tuned in all of their shows at one time or another, and in my opinion, Carolla was the only host even remotely worth listening to...and that's not saying much.

Awe Come on! - Adam was the best we ever had on am1550 "Yada-Yada" a few short years ago! That is as far as he got. $500K or $50.00, he was great on Comedy Central but an audience of 247 listeners will not a check for 1/2 mil cover! Those airwaves at that time were also graced by Opie and Anthony and none other than Don Imus ("In the Morning")

I wouldn't pay Adam Carolla $5.00 to do a show. (just my opinion) he has no talent and his voice could open my garage door and set off my fire alarms.

He was the one guy that got decent ratings and was on the rise throughout the FreeFM experience. He was on track to pass KNBR in the male 25-54 demo within a book or two.
