Adam the Bull heard via streaming this afternoon said...

I'm all for a co-host for Adam, but the co-host shouldn't upstage or be a detriment to him. If referring to a former Cleveland athlete, the pickings are very slim.

One difference between Adam's hiring here and the situation I mentioned in DC:

Adam was hired first, and they haven't even mentioned a coming co-host officially.

Unlike Chad Dukes, who is a young former "hot talk" host (on the same frequency in DC), Adam is a well-regarded professional sports talk host.

His 4-day-a-week schedule and frequent fill-ins for WFAN's big weekday names has raised his profile, and quite a few WFAN listeners are apparently sad to see him go. (And not just in his Twitter feed, either. A quick Google search revealed several NYC sports bloggers calling him "WFAN's most underutilized asset". I haven't found anything yet saying "good riddance".)

His departure is so important to WFAN that he guested on the station's weekday midday show last week to say goodbye.

So, they aren't repurposing an existing employee to do the radio stuff for an athlete here, like they did in DC. Whoever he's paired with, Adam will clearly be driving that PMD bus that's going to run over R&R at some point.

Maybe they bring in a sportswriter with Adam. Let's go through that list again...

Bernie's best at what he is right now.

A football analyst who you bring on a couple of times a week during the season to break down the game.

I don't think he's the kind of guy who likes being couped up in a studio for 5 hours a day, and he has made no secret of the fact he would like to have an NFL front office gig (preferably for the Browns, but he'd go elsewhere if offered).

He hasn't been on KNR in ages (outside of the team produced "Browns Daily" show).

With the Xs and Os guys around, 850 hasn't felt the need to have him be their designated Browns analyst anymore.

Part of it is also due to his family life. The PD actually chronicled Bernie's beyond messy divorce, and how he devotes so much time as a parental figure for his daughters. He hasn't the time to devote to anything beyond what he already had done with the Gladiators and his nominal duties with the Browns and WKYC-TV.

WKNR obviously knew that this would be the case; ergo, why Je'Rod and LeCharles were brought on board to fulfill many - if not all - of Bernie's original duties when he had to pull back.

Sad as it is, I don't think we'll ever see him in an NFL front office. I know that was the dream of most Browns fans (and make no mistake, he has a terrific football mind) but there's a part of me that just can't see it happening. So much has to break his way in order for that to happen, and this is a team that is now in the mold of Mike Holmgren. The expansion-era Browns prior to today are volume after volume of case studies in dysfunctional relationships.

Bernie was a victim of circumstances, and more's the pity.

That would be funny if they put in Dennis Manoloff. ("D-Man & The Bull") Although I wanted Dennis to anchor middays.

Branson Wright also had a brokered talk show or two after leaving the PD, bouncing around between WERE/1490 and KNR2/1540. He was upended of sorts from the PD by Brian Windhorst's leapfrog act a few years back, and I'm not sure he'll have much name recognition.

Not really interested in using the existing stable of PD columnists one bit - Bud S., Bill L., Terry P. - not because they would be retreads, but rather because they might run out of things to say. Great as rotating guests, not so as a permanent hosts. (I really wish that this was 20 years earlier; Dan Coughlin would have been perfect.)

How about someone like a Brian Dullik? (Elyria Chronicle/Medina Gazette reporter - and a weekly guest on Peter Brown's Y!SR Saturday show...)

At least "word is..." that Roger Brown hopefully isn't being considered... ;)

If Roger ends up on 92.3, I may well move out of the station's listening area. Andy would be quite wise to do extensive Google searching on Roger's antics.

Of course, it would be his ticket out of the metropolis of Bristol TN/VA, where he's writing mundane local news stories for the paper there.

But I agree, no, no and HELL no on Roger.

Now, Brian Dulik, that's some outside the box thinking. He knows what he's talking about, he covers the teams and he's not overexposed like most of the PD foiks are. He's younger than they are, though I don't know if he's done any extensive radio work. And I'm pretty sure he's an OMW reader, which doesn't cloud my vision at all :)

For that matter, Adam has been reading since he knew he was coming here.

Well, Roger may let us in on the real estate you would be looking at........ ;)

Pluto's relationship with the local sports talkers is weird. There was a lot of venom directed his way by the WKNR team in 2005 when his book False Start: How the New Browns Were Set to Fail came out, though I have no idea why Rhoda and Brinda were critical at the time.

He's mostly on WTAM, when they actually talk sports.

They'd never let Terry co-host a caller oriented show, as prank callers would keep ribbing him for admitting he became a born again Christian due to an addiction to Internet porn.

Maybe someone like Tom Withers or the return of Brian Windhorst?

Personally with a strong update guy I think Adam can certainly stand on his own. (Especially if he doesn't have to do 10 live commercials per hour!)

Brian's close ties to LePunk might be a liability. Plus his gig with ESPN gives him more exposure, so long as the NBA actually plays this season.

What could happen is that depending on the co-host, the show will likely be billed as "The Adam the Bull Show with _______________." WJZ-FM/Baltimore does the same thing with Scott Garceau, billing it as "The Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn."

Windhorst has a good thing going with ESPN, and he ain't giving it up.

During the season he was a weekly guest on RBS, and Windy would probably not want to do a show where he'd have to take calls, because he'd get crucified due to the preception that he followed LeChoke down to South Beach.

Speaking of RBS...guess who finally made his return today after being persona non grata forever...

#19 himself, Bernie Kosar.

Any chance they could steal Golic from WNIR? Would Golic have a non-compete? Would he be willing to do an all sports show?

As far as the 10-2 & 7-10 spots is there anyone Roth may be bringing with him from WGR?

Technically, Cleveland and Akron are seperate radio markets.

That being said, it sounds like Golic is happy doing his general issues show, and may look at doing just sports as a downgrade.

BTW, he's also the GM of the Cleveland Crush--our new Lingiere Football League team.

I love Bernie, he's my hero in life, but it would be like the Browns pre-season games where by the 3rd quarter his meds ware off and he starts babbling. Just imagine:

Adam: We are joined here in the studio by the lovely ladies of Hooter's of Akron. Aren't these some lovely women, Bernie?

Kosar: Yeah, they're almost as hot as my daughter. Did you see the way she 69'd that guy in her latest porno? This waitress next to me has a rack almost as big as my little girl.

Adam: Okaaay! We are gonna take a break and our intern is gonna take Bernie out into the hall to collect himself. We'll be right back.

I'm going to the betting window to put a side bet on this one. Though I don't know who the Cleveland version of Mr. Conn would be.
