Normally, Chris Engel does the news updates for Worcester's "100FM The Pike", WXLO, and Oldies 98-9. Engel has been on vacation this week and I normally hear WXLO's Jen Carter (of Zito and Jen) sub for him.
But XLO's Zito is on vaca as well this week and Jen is holding down the WXLO morning show with Sully. So, instead, Oldies 98-9's Adam Webster is doing the updates for his own station, The Pike, and WXLO.
This morning, around 815ish, just before leaving the house, I heard Adam and Bruce Palmer chatting on The Pike and Adam actually mentioned on-air that "I'm doing the news this week for The Pike, WXLO, and my own station." Bruce Palmer pretended to be shocked that Webster would actually mention competing stations (although same family, Citadel) on the air and told Adam he was going to stand behind him while Adam was on the air for Oldies and yell "100FM The Pike!".
Bruce then asked Adam if he wanted to mention the Citadel stations in Providence as well and proceeded to put in a plug for his afternoon gig at Tru Oldies 790. Palmer also joked to Adam that "when I heard Chris Engel was on vacation this week, I was looking forward to Chris Zito but he's on vacation too so I get stuck with you."
It was funny listening to them as it happened. I guess you had to be there. ;D
A few minutes later, leaving in the car, I turned on WXLO just as Adam came on with their news update (although not with any interaction with Sully and Jen). I switched to Oldies 98-9 and they were playing music. Switched back to WXLO...Adam still with his news update. Back to Oldies and stayed there until the song ended less than a minute later. Adam immediately comes on and starts plugging some Oldies jock appearances. I switch back to XLO and Sully and Jen are coming out of a break.
Whew!
