Additional news about WBQD Davenport coming soon....And possibly on 'must-carry' lists for satellite providers?

According to an article in the Quad City Times (I think around St. Patrick's Day), WBQD made an announcement about becoming affiliated with the all-new My Network TV. The article also said that it had plans to create a digital signal. Given that WBQD has a 'secret' LMA with WQAD, will it be a subchannel for NewsChannel 8? And will this new digital signal require DirecTV and DISH Network to carry WBQD (as neither one of them does)?

Could be, but it could also be their own digital signal. Many LPTVs are filing for permission to "flash-cut" from analog to digital operation on their existing channels. (WBQD has not, however, yet done so. Or at least, the application hasn't made it to Public Notice yet.) There's also soon to be a window for LPTV applications for "companion channels", second channels for interim DTV operation, similar to what happened with full-power stations. (difference being that LPTVs are not *guaranteed* a second channel)

As I understand it, if WBQD's analog signal isn't currently entitled to must-carry then its new digital one won't either. Not even if their digital is indeed a subchannel of channel 8. (channel 8 gets to claim *one* digital must-carry slot & I think one can reasonably assume they'll claim it for their ABC channel!)
