Ads on Fox News, pre State of the Union address

It's a pretty common thing, where ads are run along side a live event. I see it in golf coverage, where they call it "playing through."

I don't know if there's a price break, but I'd argue against it because as a viewer, my eyes are more likely to be on the screen if the ad appears with content than when it's an ad alone.

What were they selling? My Pillows and dieabeatus pills?
Fox reported cable revenue in Q2 of $2.28 billion (5% increase) over prior year (their fiscal year is not the calendar year). So obviously, whomever advertises, they are paying good rates.

Per Barrett Media, the three cable channels did this in September 2025:

Fox News led the way, accounting for more than half the overall revenue between the three. It earned $105.5 million in September, the estimates show. CNN was second with $70.5 million, followed by MSNBC at $31.5 million.

Note that all of the online news services engage in the typical American confusion between "revenue" and "profit".
