There is a LPFM window coming up maybe you should file and run this content yourself. Low Power FM (LPFM) Channel FinderHow about interviews with adult stars and them talking about stuff, mix with them Djing music and stuff. I’d listen to it. Live appearances, shows and web content. Judging by people’s search history it would be popular.

Even SXM took a lot of heat over those channels. Could you imagine what the book-banning, anti-LGBTQ, right-wing activists who are itching to find a new culture war topic would do to a terrestrial radio station owner that did even close to this sort of adult programming? About two hours after starting it, may as well douse yourself in gasoline and fire up the match, because what would be likely occurring soon after would be more ugly and painful than that. The porn-talk format's been done on SiriusXM, twice, but dropped years ago. One iteration was Playboy Radio, the other Vivid Radio. Identical content: career talk from stars, sex advice from experts. No moaning, gasping or other simulations of the sounds of coitus, but F-bombs pretty much come with the territory. I doubt such a format would work on an LPFM without the operator being fined unless the language of all involved was thoroughly cleaned up. Yeah, right. Mission: Frickin' Impossible.
That's just it, though. You might get some initial interest and ratings, especially once news media found out about the station and would probably give it lots of coverage and, um, "exposure" (pun intended), but longer-term it probably wouldn't do well and many would just get bored with it after a while - especially since the content would be fairly vanilla if it's on an OTA station. If it couldn't make a go of it on a platform like SiriusXM, I'm not sure it'd work in any radio market on a broadcast signal. And if this was really a thing, I guarantee you’d see some listeners (at least to “check it out”)…
You’re spot on, it’s a novelty and nothing else (if it ever existed in real life). I could see it creating some buzz as a stunt, or something of the sort. With the power of the internet, who needs radio toeing the line? Not that we would know anything about that! That's just it, though. A few other things to consider: 1) Just like the movie and TV and music businesses, the adult film industry has changed a lot in recent years. No longer are many porn 'stars' contracted to a few larger studios. Just like people are taking to YouTube and TikTok to release their own music and video content and making money and getting notoriety that way, those who want to become adult movie actors can film their own content and post it to sites like OnlyFans, JustForFans and others. Rather than getting a few hundred or maybe $1,000 per scene from a larger adult film studio, on OnlyFans they can charge what they deem appropriate and much more of the $$ goes directly to them.... and if some of their subscribers want personalized videos or content, they can charge $$$ for those types of things via those platforms as well. 2) If someone is really into a particular adult film star and wants to know more about them, especially if they're contracted with a larger studio or they're well-known, many have done interviews that can be found on YouTube or that can be read on the web, and they have social media - Instagram, Twitter/X and the like, where those interested can follow them and learn more about them and possibly find more content featuring them. They don't need to listen to a radio station in hopes they hear an interview with them.
....At least that's what a few buddies have told me. I wouldn't know about any of that stuff myself!
Hmmm.A couple things here:
1. Scott, do you have an aircheck of the Pole format from WLYK? I didn't get to hear it.
2. While my thoughts are well known about 93.3, I would think 98.9 would be a better frequency for this type of format. First off bigger signal, second off currently running a format that does not have as good of a track record of long term success as that on 93.3.
Thank the Lord they weren't around 25 years ago, when Z-100 had "Love Phones" after 10 PM, with teenagers calling in asking for sex and masturbation advice.Even SXM took a lot of heat over those channels. That would have been mild as compared with what used to be on SXM Vivid, or the prior versions of their porn channel.Thank the Lord they weren't around 25 years ago, when Z-100 had "Love Phones" after 10 PM, with teenagers calling in asking for sex and masturbation advice.
