Again, a 24/7 Christmas Music Station will not be in Atlanta

B98.5 won't be playing 24/7 Christmas. I'd really think one of the stations need to participate. Other than 104.7. The Bull did it a couple of years ago. Someone might want to take on this because on B98.5 Facebook page, the listener's want it.
Thoughts, anyone?!

Is The Fish not considered a 24/7 Christmas music station?

Exactly.

And B98.5's strategy worked last year. They felt that even though the ratings had been skyrocketing for Christmas music in years prior, a significant number of regular B98.5 listeners would leave the station and then not come back after Christmas. Last year, B98.5's ratings with the part-time Christmas format might not have been as high as with the full format, but they were much higher in January, 2013 than in January, 2012.

I don't recall The Bull breaking format and airing noncountry Christmas songs since they flipped in the middle of Lite 94.9's all-Christmas run a few years back.

They do play a lot of Christmas country, but that's different.

The only hope at this point would be for Art Sutton and Lake Lanier Islands to put Christmas on 105.1, if for no other reason than to keep the license active.

I predict B98.5 to go even more sparingly with the Christmas tunes.

In my book, 10 or 15 people on Facebook who "want it" isn't a reason to do it, not for a station with over 1 million cume each month. Stations have been doing the all Christmas thing for a decade now and nationally the novelty is fading.

B98.5 doesn't have to do the All-Christmas thing but that also means that I don't have to listen to them. When they decided in their infinite wisdom to not even go all-Christmas on Christmas Eve and Day I haven't listened to them for one second since. I assume they have the same plan for this year and my decision not to listen to their station will continue for another year.

When the LITE went out, stomped on by a Bull --

IIRC it was when the Peach was in "all Christmas" mode in December.

Indeed it was, smack in the middle of a set, I believe. No warning, no tease, just "in your face, Atlanta. How's that for your holly berries?"

Thank goodness for Pandora and the several Sirius/XM channels offering the music.

My thinking may be flawed, but one of those hugely popular stations
with over 1 million cume each month
ought to be able to "sacrifice" a little in deference to tradition. Or are owners terrified of doing anything that communicates even the tiniest bit of acknowledgment of the sacredness of the season? I bet if -- no, I'd better not say it; the moderator would slam me.

Fish/104.7 flipped to all Xmas music this afternoon at 5:00.

I've heard through the B98.5 grapevine that sometime tomorrow or Thanksgiving morning, they'll begin a 4 Christmas song per-hour rotation (just like last year) and keep it through the end of the weekend. Then, they'll drop to two or three songs per hour through about December 11th. It will gradually pick up in rotation from there. Basically the same, and successful, plan from last year.

christmas music

I have been listening to 98.1 and for 4songs straight its been Christmas...guess this is the new channel for the rest of the year
