For what it is worth, AAR has a cume of 109,600 on their dedicated XM channel, according to the newly released Arbitron Satellite report.
"America Right", the XM right wing channel, has a cume of 132,400.

This may be an indication of how things might play out on terrestrial if the services were equally available.

And on Sirius: Sirius Left has a cume of 59,100 and Sirius Patriot (Yes, you are only a "Patriot" if you are a right winger  ) has 46,800.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one annoyed with that name. What sucks is they didn't have to choose the name either. They used to have two right-wing talkers: Sirius Patriot and Sirius Right. When they merged the two they went with the name Sirius Patriot.

There is an explanation for the 'Patriot' name, and it comes from Sirius Left host Alex Bennett.

He said that when the two channels were relaunched a few years back, they were Sirius Left and Right. Sirius wanted to rename them - Right to Patriot, and Left to Liberty. But people involved with Sirius Left wanted to keep the name, as they felt it best described what they were doing. The folks on Right didn't care one way or the other. So, Left remained left and Right became Patriot.

Bennett wasn't thrilled about the name, as he considered it offensive, and said so on his show. But nobody else complained with him, so the matter died until a few months ago, when a bunch of blogs started griping about it. Bennett's response was to the tune of, 'where the hell were you a few years ago?'

I always thought the "Patriot" moniker was inspired by Salem, which had been using it on some of their secular conservotalk stations going back to the late 90's. I never thought much of it, since it's a stupid moniker anyway. I initially wondered when Mel Gibson's and Heath Ledger's shows were on.

Anyone know why this is in the New York forum and not News/Talk forum?

No, but give it an ideologic response or two and most of it will eventually end up in "Take It Outside". ;D

Wow - everyone in Tucson taking my advice! I said they should have flipped to prog talk two years ago. I actually told them so... although however many GMs later, I'm sure they've forgotten. I'm sure Dr. Laura's crowd appreciates hearing Stephanie Miller poke fun at their values. What a mish-mash.

Too bad you all beat me to the punch on the other stations. WPLY is actually, IIRC, part of Scranton. WTAN carried Imus and I believe now airs the Young Turks in AMD. What a sorry signal though; don't blame the owners (who ARE nuts) for the bad job of whoring out time. That signal is a real dog. Not sure how this applies to NYC, however.

Also, in response to the XM cume issue: there are several channels running conservative talk and one running liberal talk. Glenn Beck, for example, is on Talkradio 165 (formerly Ask), so that cume should be added in, too.

It's in here because WWRL is in New York City and is the network's home base. In NYC they get beat by WOR the world's worst talk station!

Keep in mind WOR has a 50,000 watt signal to play with. WWRL has a great deal of signal problems. Not to mention WOR has been doing talk for awhile now.

But you already knew that, didn't you?
