The Young Turks who host a syndicated weekday talk show are filling in this weekend for Laura Flanders on Air America.
Last weekend (4th') was the best of Laura Flanders. Details:

http://www.youngturk.com/xoops/modules/news/article.php?storyid=114

"The Young Turks will broadcast two shows on Air America radio on July 9 and 10, at 7pm ET / 4pm PT, filling in for Laura Flanders. Please tune in and call in if you have an Air America station in your area.Albany, OR - KTHH-AM 990 AMEugene, OR - KOPT-AM 1600 AMLos Angeles, CA - KTLK-AM 1150 AMPortland, OR - KPOJ-AM 620 AM

Note: Web site also has an AAR STATION ROSTER plus two NEW AAR stations launching in July in NM and NY.

And, Laura Flanders web site also says that AAR's Bill Crowley will fill in, but I'm not sure when. Did this already occur?

In my view it is good to have substitute hosts rather than best ofs. The last I heard the Young Turks only had a handful of affiliates. Now they have 60+ for one weekend.

Promos now airing say Rachel Maddow will have subs the next two weeks.

When Randi Rhodes was out for surgery, she had subs. But some Clear Channel stations dropped the show and put in Jerry Springer instead (which may have forced Air America's hand to make a syndication deal to carry Jerry's show, which already was taking stations away from Unfiltered).

Maybe there's a lesson here: Stations, don't run the "best of" shows. Try out other syndicated and local hosts. When Randi goes on vacation, try out Stephanie Miller and see how she does. When Franken takes off, put in Thom Hartmann and/or Arnie Arnesen. Thom and others have generated a long list of potential candidates. AAR's shows are so topical - as they should be - there's no way re-runs don't sound very dated.

July Vacations of Rachel Maddow and Mike D. Malloy -

Good comments you have...

Who do you think Air America should run for Malloy this week instead of best-ofs (11th to 15th)?

e.g. Jay Diamond? Doug Basham? Ray Talliaferro?

Do you know who will be substituting for Rachel Maddow for the next two weeks?
