Aircheck: CHR KZFM 95.5 "Hot Z95" Corpus Christi

I haven't heard them lately, but KZFM used to always be a pretty good top 40. Independently owned, it has survived many competitors -- KITE, KJKC "Power 105", KQTX "Q105", KBTE "102.3 the Beat" -- over the years.

I actually taped this in South Padre Island, outside of KZFM's normal range over the 1994 Labor Day weekend. Despite local KZSP 95.3, it boomed it for most of the aircheck. It fades periodically -- but otherwise is there 95% of the time.

Thanks Chip. Do you have any 102.3 The Beat?

Yes. I have a tape of them shortly after they started in 1998. It's actually under the briefly used KZJM calls. Classic rock KXCC had flipped to KZJM, but KZFM challenged the use of KZFM-like calls and the use of "jamz" as a slogan. KZJM then became "the Beat" (changed calls to KAJM and then KBTE right afterwards).
