Aircheck Request For WYLT My 103.9, WXKE 102.9 Mike FM, & WXTW X102.3

Hi, I heard from www.100000watts.com that 3 important stations are changing it's calls, or maybe 4 as it says there. Here's the update: WXKE 102.9 Huntington/Fort Wayne IN changes calls to WWGL, flipping from adult hits "Mike FM" to a simulcast of standards "River" WGL 1250 Fort Wayne. This is the first in a chain of changes in Fort Wayne - the WXKE calls will move back to their former home, 103.9, which will return to rock, dropping the top 40 "My 103.9" format and WYLT calls. WXKE will simulcast on what's now classic rock WCKZ 94.1 Roanoke IN. And WXTW 102.3 Auburn/Fort Wayne IN will flip from modern rock "X 102.3" to Spanish "Mega" sometime next month.

Really stupid don't you think? They are messing up a perfectly good radio market for nothing. Is the adult hits format not working in that market? Well anyways, I would like airchecks of these 3 stations before they change this Friday. WYLT My 103.9, WXKE 102.9 Mike FM, and WXTW X102.3. They are not streaming and I am not in the listening area so would like to have a record of these, especially My 103.9 and 102.9 Mike FM.

My aircheck site is at: http://www.angelfire.com/wi3/scotty1/airchecks.html and my e-mail address is at the bottom of that page just above the counter. Take a look also at my tapeable radio stations as I have gotten almost 150 FM stations - also a lot of AM too. I'd like anything you can get off those stations before they change this Friday so ASAP please. Thanks.

I don't know. When it comes to stupid, it seems like you need to look at the market when Summit City (or I believe it was called Travis Communications at the time) first arrived. WYLT was a bad idea from the getgo. Killing the heritage rock station and trying to migrate the listeners to 94.1 was just dumb. 103.9 has since made format tweakings, adjustments or just plain changes how many times in the three or so years it was on? Mike FM wasn't given much of a chance, but that signal isn't good for much anyway. It only citygrades about half of Ft. Wayne, and it's mostly the southern half. It wasn't much of a ratings winner since it dumped standards the first time. WXTW has been steadily down. I can see why they're selling it; the signal is also terrible. In Summit City's defense, when you look at the signals, it would be hard to win under any circumstances, even if you had the greatest programmers in the world. However, they also did a very poor job with the good signals they had.

Ah so it's mostly signal problems then. Well then why don't they just increase the signals or move the transmitters or something? I still need these airchecks ASAP please. I don't think there's anyone in the studios to take my call to listen on the phone either.

its kind of hard just to move transmitters without permission of the FCC and having to move other stations just to move those stations into better position. it be like saying WWKI in Kokomo wanted to get a better signal into Lafayette. there would have to be some moves in and around including any other 100.5 fm frequency close to Lafayette plus all 100.1, 100.3, 100.7 (Terre Haute's WMGI wouldnt be happy to have to try to change there city Grade Signal in TH for a Move of WWKI to Lafayette) and 100,9 which just seen WYJZ move from Leabonon to Speedway indiana so it could get a better City Signal in Indy. it takes Money and a lot of Moves just to get a better signal. so Summit is screwed with what they got unless they fine Money to buy off other stations or owners to move their stations Xmitters with FCC Permission

Hoping someone got the tape - Mike is running All Sinatra and has changed their call letters to WWGL. 103.9 is running 80's Hair bands with a message saying tune in tomorrow morning at 9:41 for a special announcement.

It's a combination of signal problems and bad programming. Summit City had three quality FM signals, and two were the pits. They killed the wrong station in Rock 104 and didn't give the replacement much time to work. WNHT was mainstream one minute, rhythmic the next; Hits 96.3 launched only to suddenly become Wild 96.3. You get the idea. As I said before, Summit City had a few signals no one would have been able to make do too much. However, good programming would have done better, albeit still poorly. By the way, at least in the near future, two of the three quality signals will simulcast. Hopefully, that won't continue for long. If it does, does it make sense to you?

Well then why don't they just increase the signals or move the transmitters or something?

As Mike explained, you can't just increase a signal. You have to conform to specific spacing and city of license requirements. The FCC isn't likely to change its spacing requirements, and the city of license can be hard to change because you have to prove the community warrants a radio station and that it's sufficiently independent of any larger communities around it. Those stations are pretty well boxed in where they are.
