Albany NY is in need of a Dance top 40 station:)

This is way overdue, we have every genre format on radio of music in albany except a Dance top 40 station like Electric FM http://www.electricfm.com/ in nyc, I think this would fit good here , I have talked to many people and they agree.

90.9FM WCDB plays some techno, rave , dance etc but I think albany needs a 24-7 station that can provide this kind of music format.

You can have it the station with commercials just overnight make it commercial free I know electric fm is fully non-commercial with personalities so I am sure they don't get paid just volunteer.

The Disadvantage to Electric fm is it's only available to listen online but to have a dance top 40 station on your radio dial would be even better and the ability to listen online also would top the charts here in albany.

This kind of station would explode and top all online only dance stations

I would love to see albany broadcasting or town square media take on this kind of format.

this station would target 18-40 males and females of all kinds, believe it or not there are alot of techno, rave and dance junkies here in upstate ny there would be a huge listener base.

I do not expect a Dance CHR here in Albany, because we don't really have the market for it... sure, a college station (such as WCDB or WRPI) might be able to get away with having dance shows but not a commercial station with a fulltime dance format :)

Something like Adult CHR, Rhythmic AC or Urban AC might make more sense in this market... I don't expect a full-time Spanish station in this market either...

true we do have a smaller market here in albany like you said danikayser84 I think Rhythmic AC or Urban AC would do good because of the 8.8% black population mostly in the albany area, I Would like to see town square compete with ABC ...jamz 96.3 on this front.

Kiss Fm is competing with Fly 92 on the CHR top 40 Front, I have talked to alot of people wanting more of the old school style rap & r&b that jamz 96.3 used to play when sugar bear was the PD.

Crush Fm would make a good conversion in this aspect to Rhythmic AC or Urban AC I just wonder what Dan Austin and Terry O' donnell will do will they keep it the same HOT AC or will they change the format and compete with Jamz 96.3 ????

It be nice to have dance top 40 though because were smack in the middle of ny state but again it be costly.

Colleges are booming here in upstate ny region therefore techno, rave etc.. is popular. WCDB and WRPI both have individual dance programming non-commercial

WYJB- B95.5 is seeming like there trying to covert from soft rock to Hot AC to compete with Crush FM, but it be funny to see Crush FM take on both WYJB and WAJZ.

clear channel only has one AC Format just WRVE if I iam correct

so albany broadcasting wants to compete with Crush Fm I am sure... there not too worried now but with terry coming on board they will try to adjust there WYJB Station I got a feeling

I think Crush FM would also make a Great Adult CHR station instead of a HOT AC so I am sure one of those formats you mentioned danikayser84 I hope that town square will consider because Crush FM format now is just not delivering the ratings, WRVE is on top there doing good the only thing going for TSM is WGNA and I think changing crush format would be a smart idea at this stage in the game will have to wait and see.

Getting back to the idea of a dance station I believe it could draw in listeners over the 18-40 age bracket easily, especially if they added 70's and 80's classics.

It would actually be fun to listen to radio in Albany.

Too bad the people in charge of the local radio groups don't have the courage to try something really new.

true chuck the small market here in albany usually doesn't take on big challenges, they would be gambling on it if they did indeed have a Dance CHR station, which i too think it would bring in more revenue.

This idea would be DOA. The format would flip in 6 months. No advertisers would be excited about this. It's all about money boys & girls. And this ain't makin you cash.

Agree that a dance format would be DOA due to the lack of advertiser support. Hey, I would like to see classic country come back, but after 3 Capital district stations could not make a go of it, here too, lack of ad support, I have given up on that happening again.

Yea, I'd like an Urban AC here but advertisers probably wouldn't support that either :p But unlike Classic Country and Dance, that'd probably fare the best out of the three...

adding another Top 40 CHR is not a wise idea but in radio it's about competition and the money game. I hope they don't turn Crush FM into a Top 40 CHR.

We have 3 rock stations, 2 country stations, 1 soft rock station, 2 Top 40 CHR stations, 2 Hot A/C stations, 2 oldies stations and only 1 urban station

No Dance Stations, No Variety stations, seems all ROCK and TOP 40 CHR take over albany including WGNA.

yes we have a lot of college kids , but our urban population is on the rise why not have 1 more urban station.

what albany needs is another Rhythmic CHR or Urban AC, Jamz 96.3 is doing pretty good it has no competition in this market if i was TSM I would add another Urban station.

medium age is 35 mostly females mostly white but blacks are making an impact they love music and targeting them is a great idea in this market , 1 station is not going to cut it. it just shows the bias going on in albany ny.

We need less CHR top 40, Rock and Country and more Urban or A/C Stations maybe even 1 variety station which is hard to find anymore since every station i know plays current hits and not the classics.

Part of the problem is these companies pay money for research and then do it even if it's right or wrong. Pay for the reshearch they do what they say (but cheaply).

advertisers need to market the urban population they can't leave them out of picture that would be discrimination.

Are you really pulling out the race card over this nonsense? They don't 'need' to market to anyone other than groups that will most likely if not guarantee that they seek out their businesses. Just because you feel they aren't enough stations targeting non-whites doesn't always come back to collusion against your target or type of music you want.

More bias/discrimination? At this point anyone who pulls this out is desperate and grasping at straws to prove their 'view' rather than an actual point or in this case an emotional rant. Give it a rest.

well kickass I Mean we only have only 1 Rhythmic CHR in this market Jamz 96.3 it be nice to see another one competing in this market.

Non-whites like other stations too but they love the Rhythmic format mostly

better research needs to be done
