Alex Jones' pirate FM in Austin gets fined $10,000

Oh, it's a common name! :)

And Fred....IIRC, when Southwest first took off, it DID operate under authority granted by the Texas Aeronautics Commission!

While that has nothing to do with pirate radio, I just thought it interesting as an example of intrastate commerce.

I wonder if it's now safe to move my little Ramsey FM25 down to 90.1? ;D

Have any other Texas FM pirates been fined over the last twenty years or so? I recall there was a FM pirate operator In San Marcos a few years ago but I'm not sure if he was fined or not.

IIRC, that was just a raid w/confiscation of equipment. Raymond Frank has been cited multiple times, hence the $10K slapdown.

And yes....he's back on 90.1 tonight.

He needs to hire a Private Security Firm to act as his private Army. Declare his property a sovereign Nation and test the power and resolve of the United States Of America... Broadcast this while it happens and videotape it. Now thats entertainment...

Part of me sides with pirates and the idea of using that electronic soapbox to get your message out when no one else will do it. But when this pirate got loaded down with commercials and informercials for natural cure-alls, survivalist supplies, gold investments, and of course Alex Jones DVDs... then it was no longer about free speech.... it became another commercial operation.

couldn't have said it better myself!

Oh..and I miss seeing you in the morning Fred! ::)

Yea, the signal has been coming and going, so it looks like he's moving around. I'd bet this turns into a long-term engagement with the FCC, one that eventually winds up being a rather major news story.

Unauthorized stations should only run unauthorized commercials.
Lik old cigarette commercials and commercials for car brands that no longer exist.
Why would anyone want to ruin the purity of the "pirate" approach with commercials?

KXAN reports it was FORMER TRAVIS COUNTY SHERIFF Raymond Frank who broadcast Alex Jones' and others on 100.1 in 2007 and now 90.1 in 2009.
