All chirtsmas on movin in st louis tll jan 1 wonder if that might happen here

I see where the movin station in st louis got blown up into santa till jan 1 when they go all sports i wonder if that may happen in louisville or lexington???I don't know of any off hand but the suits are always looking to better there bottom line and lookin for the flava of the day format.HMMM

Time will tell.

I'd love to hear the rationale for that. They've gone up in the last two trends. I'm guessing there is some syndicated programming they can't have until January 1, so that's why they'll be delaying the sports format. But why not stick with the format they have until closer to Christmas? There must be some hidden reason.

We did that in 1995 with 94.7. We had a construction permit for it, and it was ready to go, but we had been sold to Cox, who couldn't reveal their format plans. We wanted to just leave it off the air until the transfer happened on January 1, 1996. But the FCC said we had to put something on the air by a certain date in November.

So what do you do? Put on a format for six weeks that may conflict with what the new owners really wanted to do? Thus was born Holiday 94.7, which kept playing Christmas music until around January 7th.

So there are reasons for doing these things. But don't look for it to happen in any other market.

This isn't unusual for a station to flip to holiday music and then flip to a new format the first of the year... Christmas music makes money...

MOViN in St. Louis hasn't been "MOViN" for the past year, they went back to the HOT A/C format and only kept the trademarked MOViN logo and name as part of the deal with Alan Burns.. the station had been on a for 2 years, I imagine some sort of deal had expired with Burns by then...

Clear Channel took 98.9 all Christmas shortly after Halloween when they launched WZKF, they were WZTR then "The Holiday Star"... the day after Christmas KISS-FM was born

Thats what i think mainline should have done with wlrs last year right close to the end of the year gone all christmas and then jan 1 they should have gone either all sports which would have beat the ticket to the punch lol or classic country either of which would have served a much better purpose then want they are doing now but mind you the new format is not bad but serves little to no format hole in louisville. But it just shows you mainine does not care about wlrs at all they will just let them wither away on the vine:( Sad but there are stations like that in every cluster all over this country where no one cares about one certain station.

As i recall george lindsey in his press release back in the spring said "wlrs will be exploding onto speakers all over the ville"

Also i recall a station in indy either last year or the year before went all christmas in october.

When Emmis blew up Radio Now, they put christmas music on 93.1 until they moved WIBC to FM after the first of the year.

And, you're right, every cluster has their crap station...
