I'm surprised they are keeping--and using--the WYAY call letters. Why not new calls that relate more directly to news, something catchy, or at least differentiate them from previous formats?

BarryATL said:I was too sleepy to type, but I was a little put off that by the lack of local talent coverage of the storms that came through around 1AM last night. It was obvious on the radar that some serious storms were moving across the southern metro. All that was mentioned was the two hours old pre-recorded Fox 5 weather that mentioned "some storms will move across the metro during the night." That is not a hear and now forecast. The local announcer could have looked at the radar and made mention of what she sees on the radar at the end of the 1:06AM weather. As a matter of fact, there was not even a temp given at the 1:06AM weather.
Clear.

For a station that comes across as a serious news station the whole "Flight 1067. Clear." cheapens the image. If this were a fluff Merlin all news station then it might work, but that is not the image Cumulus is going with.

It is no different than WSB's Kim McCarthy is in the WSB 24 Hour Coolray Heating and Air SKycopter Skyplane Traffic Center. They just say "Flight 106.7 clear", I don't mind it and really couldn't care the hell less.

The first major storm to hit ATL will be an acid test for this station. I'm talking about storms that result in the cancellation of other programming for continuous weather coverage.BRENT said:BarryATL said:I was too sleepy to type, but I was a little put off that by the lack of local talent coverage of the storms that came through around 1AM last night. Yes this has to be addressed immediately, this is where WSB will win out. I honestly have never like any of the Fox 5 weather peeps, sans Cook. Even he is becoming a mute. I could have easily done a better job with the weather for them last night. I was trying to find a number to call and tell them, LOOK AT THE RADAR>
I know I am in the minority here, but Cap'n Herb hurts my ears (he sounds like he's yelling and someone had to pot him down), is often stale, and yaps too much when he could be covering other parts of the metro instead of teasing listeners on the other side of town to the next T&W break.wpb1999 said:Reg Griffin and CapinYerbEmry (I wanted to spell it that way) are TWEETING- let's take a look:
Reg Griffin: Challenged but never imitated: @CaptainHerbWSB @MarkArum @DougTurnbull STILL the best in the business. @ajcwsbtraffic @wsbradio @condo29
CapinYerbEmry: @reggriffin Thank you! You and our other #750traffictroopers give us the edge
Here's my "IMO": Atlanta Traffic does not stop at 8:30- CapinYerbEmpry stops at 8:50 (I'll give him that). There is a listener traffic hotline. There is an air chopper (shared with Fox5). 4 times an hour traffic reports that you can barely make out vs. comprehensive traffic reports every ten minutes. I'll pick WYAY any day. CapinYerbEmry needs to get off his high horse. WSB can no longer be the best. Because, Atlanta traffic doesn't take a break for Sean Hannity. Sorry, WSB.
