All News 106.7 is Here…Finally [last song, audio, first impressions]

I'm surprised they are keeping--and using--the WYAY call letters. Why not new calls that relate more directly to news, something catchy, or at least differentiate them from previous formats?

How about WAPM? MEANING all day?

One thing this format change has done: The thread that was on page 1 yesterday was pushed to page two (and possibly further by now) - you know, the thread about Atlanta radio being boring... ;D

I have to say that I'm impressed. Much better than I thought it would be out of the gate. Still will be a very tough climb against WSB. Remember WCNN-AM?

Hey, Engineering, get them a windscreen! The 8am hour nearly blew out my speakers with the thuds of P's popping!

I agree with ATLRadioFan, get the Fox weather people a decent way to record. Are they using Ogg Vorbis at 5 k?

And as others have said, how are they going to cover a tornado outbreak with the Fox 5 crew on the air non-stop at the same time? The NWS radar goes out in bad weather and the Weather Channel radar is several minutes late. I guess they'll watch Ken on TV and repeat the info? Oh yes, and drop the "clear". Too cute.

This thread is not even 24 hours old yet and has 162 posts and 2783 views. I do not remember seeing another so popular. However, Atlanta is one of the most active boards on radio-info.com. I guess we just talk a lot here in the south. :)

For a station that comes across as a serious news station the whole "Flight 1067. Clear." cheapens the image. If this were a fluff Merlin all news station then it might work, but that is not the image Cumulus is going with.

I was too sleepy to type, but I was a little put off that by the lack of local talent coverage of the storms that came through around 1AM last night. It was obvious on the radar that some serious storms were moving across the southern metro. All that was mentioned was the two hours old pre-recorded Fox 5 weather that mentioned "some storms will move across the metro during the night." That is not a hear and now forecast. The local announcer could have looked at the radar and made mention of what she sees on the radar at the end of the 1:06AM weather. As a matter of fact, there was not even a temp given at the 1:06AM weather.

Clear.

Yes this has to be addressed immediately, this is where WSB will win out. I honestly have never like any of the Fox 5 weather peeps, sans Cook. Even he is becoming a mute. I could have easily done a better job with the weather for them last night. I was trying to find a number to call and tell them, LOOK AT THE RADAR>

Would anyone happen to have a complete on-air schedule for the station? With anchors, reporters, traffic reporters etc.

5-10am: Andy Rose and Michelle Wright with Greg Talmage, Ty Hunter and Joanne Feldman

10am-3pm: John Lisk with Greg Talmage (10-12)/Kristen Charles (12-3) and Joanne Feldman

3pm-7pm: Greg Black and Cheryl Castro with Kristen Charles, Ty Hunter and Ken Cook
(Fox 5 News Preview with Russ Spencer at 4:23)

7pm-midnight: Mark Woolsey with Fred McFarlin and Ken Cook

I have no clue who anchors the midnight-5am broadcast. I had to go to bed.

It is no different than WSB's Kim McCarthy is in the WSB 24 Hour Coolray Heating and Air SKycopter Skyplane Traffic Center. They just say "Flight 106.7 clear", I don't mind it and really couldn't care the hell less.

The flight 106.7 part is fine. It is the "clear". It was meant to sound cute. It does sound cute and is already old. However, most people will never listen in two weeks as much as we have listened in the last 24 hours. :)

Reg Griffin and CapinYerbEmry (I wanted to spell it that way) are TWEETING- let's take a look:

Reg Griffin: Challenged but never imitated: @CaptainHerbWSB @MarkArum @DougTurnbull STILL the best in the business. @ajcwsbtraffic @wsbradio @condo29

CapinYerbEmry: @reggriffin Thank you! You and our other #750traffictroopers give us the edge

Here's my "IMO": Atlanta Traffic does not stop at 8:30- CapinYerbEmpry stops at 8:50 (I'll give him that). There is a listener traffic hotline. There is an air chopper (shared with Fox5). 4 times an hour traffic reports that you can barely make out vs. comprehensive traffic reports every ten minutes. I'll pick WYAY any day. CapinYerbEmry needs to get off his high horse. WSB can no longer be the best. Because, Atlanta traffic doesn't take a break for Sean Hannity. Sorry, WSB.

Well, WSBB simulcast got 20 pages. #BeatWSBThread #GoAllNews1067

As of 9:30, RDS is updates, saying "All News 106.7"-

John Lisk is back. He sounds good this morning, and knows how to work his computer and his board.

The first major storm to hit ATL will be an acid test for this station. I'm talking about storms that result in the cancellation of other programming for continuous weather coverage.

I know I am in the minority here, but Cap'n Herb hurts my ears (he sounds like he's yelling and someone had to pot him down), is often stale, and yaps too much when he could be covering other parts of the metro instead of teasing listeners on the other side of town to the next T&W break.

Keith Kalland RIP.  To the point, specific about traffic issues, and quick to suggest alternates.

I do like my traffic reports with a little flair, but the "clear to land" schtick is cheezy.
