All News 106.7 is Here…Finally [last song, audio, first impressions]

The news anchor is supposed to give current conditions right after the recorded forecast. I heard them do it - but not all the time.

4:06PM weather. Went from recorded Fox 5 forecast to "All News 106.7 time is 4:08." No temp, no conditions, no nothing. I would have liked to know when I went out earlier that it was still in the 60s outside.

Well Once the Big Disasters start like Hurricane's comes to Georgia then we will know how well WYAY is as an all-news station.

'Its 60 Degrees now in Pacifica, 70 Degress in Berkeley, and 80 Degrees in Walnut Creek, KCBS News Time is 4:09."

It's 70 degrees in Sandy Springs, 71 degrees in Smyrna and 71 degrees at the all new, all-news 106.7.

Yes, they have got to get better with the weather reporting... They should hire me, I am better than anyone at Fox 5.... :p

Cumulus owns ABC Radio News. Citadel got it from the Mouse, and Cumulus got it from Citadel.

That is incorrect.

ABC News Radio is owned by Disney, still, as an adjunct to the ABC News TV operation.

Cumulus owns marketing rights to sell ABC News Radio to affiliates in what started as a 10 year deal. Cumulus also runs operations (radio/tech) for ABC News Radio, so if that is in/moves to Atlanta, that's stuff like studios/satellite links/etc.

The Mouse still owns the product itself, and the news people at ABC News Radio still work for Disney/ABC. The tech people and operations support people probably work for Cumulus.

I know this is still true, because as recently as late last year, I talked to a stringer who sold audio to ABC News Radio, and his stringer check actually came out of Disney in Florida.

5:16 weather with John Lisk (sp?) straight from recording to time. No temp or conditions.

This is where they are making huge mistakes and people do notice, they need to nip this in the bud quickly.....................................

Hey, they WERE all over the Piedmont Driving Club thing (many newsflashes) ::) ::)

I listened for 30 minutes from 7:00 - 7:30 PM. No temperature or conditions at any time. Are they live?

Also, the voice over for each segment is getting more and more annoying. It sounds like a bunch of small network newscasts for each segment. The anchor should be introducing each segment so it sounds live and local. Right now it sounds like a recorded weather forecast, a recorded sports cast, a recorded business update, etc.

Are the voice overs for each segment so they can pre-record the segment and that allows a section of the 30 minute broadcast to run automated? Today, it really does sound like segments are pre-recorded and the automation is doing a terrible job of piecing it all together.

Their weekend staff isn't strong. (Poor board operations--sounders too loud, can't hear newscasters, traffic reporters starting before their sounder has faded, lean sports reporting, lots of pauses and anchors seem unsure of what they're reading.) Maybe the weekend jobs are part-time, but you still need professionals it seems. Sounds much sloppier than weekday staff, IMHO.

Today the traffic reporter kept reporting Hwy 29 and I-285 as a problem. Where is Hwy 29? I finally looked it up and figured out he was talking about Roosevelt Hwy.

Also, he kept referring to Ga 6 in Hiram or Dallas (I cannot remember). Ga 6 runs the same route as Hwy 120 and Hwy 278 which are what those roads are known as. The only place that Ga 6 is the only number on a road is in downtown Dallas... and all of those roads have names.

They have to really look at a map. I called four times during an hour to 770-818-3066 to let the person know they need to give the street names. Never got an answer on the phone. I would wait until the end of the live segment so I know he was not on the air.

I anticipated problems over the weekend, but these make the station look bad. Where was management this weekend to help these guys out? It is the first weekend. They obviously needed someone in the control room with them to help them along.

By the way... the maps I was looking at... Google maps. It is free on the Internet. :)

US 29 is Lawrenceville Hwy at 285...

You are absolutely right. The announcer was not clear on which side of I-285 he was talking about. Hwy 29 goes across both sides of I-285. He said exit 44 or something like that. Let me go look it up.

Yep... he was referring to Lawrenceville Hwy. Sheese. Not having anyone answering the phone for an hour is a no-no for a 24/7 traffic center.

Uh oh... I called the station line to remind them about temps and Drew (the guy who answered the phone) knew my name without me offering it. I am sure it was caller id and he probably put the name together with my posts here. :)

Drew and all of All News 106.7 please know that I want you guys to be successful in the long term, so I am trying to offer suggestions and not bust your chops. Today I have been a bit frustrated and I have probably been a bit too aggressive in my posts... please know, I really do like you guys.

Looking on the bright side...regarding weekend sloppiness, is this a case of not having to outrun the bear, but just having to outrun WSB?
