All-News Radio Coming To Fort Myers

Who at Radio-Info posted this?

WINK-TV brings all news to Naples radio on three signals, August 2

Naples, Florida will have a new, all news radio outlet starting August 2. WINK (1290),...

1290? WINK is 1200. The other AM is WNOG 1270.

WINK AM is currently 1240 and WPTK is currently 1200. WPTK is the station that will be switching to all news along with WNPL 1460 branded as Wink News Radio. It is assumed that the WINK calls will move over to 1200 but that is not official.

No one knows for sure what is to become of the current WINK/1240 or WNOG/1270.

My error about WINK. I meant to type 1240.

My sources tell me the "trimulcast" (read: waste of wattage) continues on 1240/1270/92.5.

The website now shows a logo for "WINK News Radio 1200/1460" on the top left.

There is also a link to "listen live" but rather than pop up an external player, it embeds a small player unit on the bottom right of the page. Slick - still wouldn't mind something to plug into Windows Media Player, though...

It's very interesting, they like saying 1200/1460 WINK News. It seems that they have their other station they moved to 92.5 that is branded as Fox News, (WFSX I think it is now), and they have their own TV stations for their local broadcast TV news all in the same building as well, but their News Updates on 1200/1460 are saying from "The CNN News Center." But then they are still saying they are a Sports Station as well when they refer to their upcoming Sports News.

That's probably the CNN radio news anchors that say they are doing their updates "from the CNN News Center"...

Just an update, sometime in the past couple of weeks it appears that the calls for 1200 were indeed changed to WINK as most of us had suspected it would be. The old WINK 1240 is no WFSX AM which of course is the same calls as their Fox News 92.5 FM. So it appears that the trimulcast of 92.5, 1240 and 1270 will continue on even after a year since they moved the the talk to 92.5. I would have thought by now they would have at least tried to come up with some other programing for 1240 & 1270. But I guess not. We will continued to be blessed with Beck, Rush and Hannity on three stations in this area.

Wow. The WINK calls on 1200. Who'd a-thunk it?

I really, really, really wish they would END THE TRIMULCAST and put something different on 1240/1270.

And Jim McLaughlin will add some sorely needed professionalism to 1200/1460. Right now, no one seems to be directing the kids on the air. And, I have to chuckle when they run a story's TV audio "Look at.." on the radio!

They might have been looking at sports, but perhaps there are contract issues with one of the networks... That's the most common plug-and-play cost-effective (and revenue generating) way to make money on an AM stick these days.

If you wish to call it being "blessed," then that's just one person's opinion...

Please tell us you missed the sarcastic "tone" in that statement.

It was meant to be a sarcastic remark. While I do not disagree with those three personalities completely I still do not care for their shows and their high opinions of themselves. People need to remember that they are entertainers and not real leaders of politics or society.

My remark was mainly meant to refer that there seems to be no end to the trimulcast of the same programing which seems as a terrible waste of radio stations to me.

I think that adding Jim McLaughlin to WINK News Radio will actually be a plus. He will add a bit of authenticity to their programing. Overall I think that the all news format is working pretty well but it needs some polishing so to speak.

I knew it was a sarcastic remark. I was directing my remark to DToTheJ.

Like you, I do not care for those three shows. I also agree that the trimulcast is a waste.
