All News WYAY launching May 29th- and Launch Preperation discussion

Will the AHG stream become All News? I will not be where I can listen over the weekend via FM and would like to keep tabs on what is going on. I guess they might move AGH to HD-2 and the AGH stream might keep running. So, I guess I will have to keep tabs on Radio-Info.com to see when the switch happens.

Just heard an announcement on Journey 97.9 that All News 106.7 will launch at 5:00am Tuesday.

Mark my word, it will launch before that. Probably Monday sometime, when no one is listening.

Back in the 70's at the tiny stations I worked at, we had to go to the transmitter to measure the absorption of the signal, to determine that. And it was only a general indication, not an exact number. I suppose it's all digital and accurate now, with a box displayed on the computer monitor, right? ::) :p

I'm assuming you are kidding.....right?
It reminds me of a story one of the TV chiefs told one time. The GM was complaining about the transmitter site power bill. Chief told him it was because too many people were watching.....it was "loading down the signal" and causing the transmitter to use excessive power. Chief said that the GM got a real funny look on his face.........and didn't talk to him about anything for sometime afterwards.

Of course. I DO know it's not digital yet. But, is it still on a logarithmic scale -- like a VU meter?

Yes, yes, yes... kidding!!!

That's funny too. That qualifies for Tom Taylor's "No names, please" column.

"Traffic, Breaking News, and Weather along with a team of news anchors and reporters inside and outside of the perimeter, Set a car preset NOW for 106.7 FM.

What is Atlanta radio's obsession with "NOW"?

ABC News twice an hour (no surprise) - Traffic and Weather together every ten minutes every 10 minutes on the 6s.

Business :)20 and :50) and Sports :)15 and :45)

I am so excited.

That means they are definitely aiming at WSB.

I have no way of confirming this, but this is how it is run on News92fm and the same type of format clock on KGO. This works out to be roughly 16 minutes of commercials (which is about right), 3 minutes of ABC News, 21 minutes of local stories (***see below), 12 minutes of traffic/weather, 3 minutes of sports an hour, and 4 minutes of ATLBizChron.

***I starred this because I think WYAY will focus on more fast-paced news each hour, with three or four LIVE reports an hour. I say only 1 min. on some headline news.

Of course, this is all speculation. Although, I have heard they will be big about following a set schedule. This might be close.

Re: UPDATED: "WYAY Format Clock"

Might as well add what I think the schedule will look like, as well:

Midnight-5am: David Hull and Jackie Howard
5am-10am: Andy Rose and Michelle Wright
10am-3pm: John Lisk and Maria Boynton
3pm-7pm: Cheryl Castro and Greg Black
7pm-midnight: Mark Woolsey and Ninette Sosa

I have bolded the anchors I know for sure will be in those spots- based on their bios.

Re: UPDATED: "WYAY Format Clock"

Will the local news and weather come from a local television affiliate or will the station hire their local new journalists and meteorologist.

Re: UPDATED: "WYAY Format Clock"

They have their own reporters an their own morning meteorologist. I haven't heard a thing in these one minute promos. So I dont know.

Re: UPDATED: "WYAY Format Clock"

For whatever reason, KGO runs the ABC TOH news delayed at :02:30. This allows KGO to have local stories at the TOH and then go into the national news with ABC.

Re: UPDATED: "WYAY Format Clock"

I thought it was posted early on that channel 11 was going to help with the weather coverage.

I also doubt they will have 2 anchors outside of AM and PM drive

I have not been this excited about a radio format change since the fish came to town.

Actually, I think they have more news anchors than they know what to do with. It is hard for me to imagine one person anchoring a 5 hour shift, all live (which it will be). So I think they will have two anchors.

It's turning out to be a very eventful Memorial Day (WXKT and WYAY-- both in Gainesville).

BTW, Channel 11 Might help with weather. At 5:06am on Tuesday, we will sure find out.

Re: UPDATED: "WYAY Format Clock"

WNEW and KGO (both new newsers) always have two anchors. WNEW swaps off every 30 minutes and KGO has two people on the air at the same time.

Same thing with KOMO and News92fm in Houston.

Re: UPDATED: "WYAY Format Clock"

This clock reads very much like WCBS-AM. They have two anchors morning and afternoon drive, no single anchor does longer than a 1 hour trick. WCBS also bails out of the network news at the 02:00 break; WBBM carries the full 4:55 network news.

They may use local TV weather help on extended breaking weather news.

WVBS rarely uses their local Channel 2 for local news; I don't think we'll see much of that on 106.7.

Now, if GST would only do something about their signal … can barely get it here in Rowell.
